Hmm..3 to a 6.5ish.

What a hot day! …and this is just the beginning :( Combined with the heat, my usual morning inability to get out of bed took a turn for the worse. Mom tried to wake me up twice, I think. I was dying in the heat (I’m as close to the ceiling of the second floor as you can get, after all…) when I did get out of bed at 3:15pm. I was very disappointed in myself. Ah, I had such grand plans for today as I fell asleep last night. Even Fishbone, who is usually very active, was being a blob. I pulled my window open all the way to see if there was any breeze. None. Damn. I made sure Fishy had enough water and trudged downstairs. Hmm… the heat had killed most of my appetite. I drank some Calipco, took a shower, drank the rest of the glass of Calpico, changed, and left to go tutor.

The Wadas were showing signs of suffering from the heat too. They live in a three-story condominium complex without good air flow or air conditioning. There was no way anyone was going to be able to study on the third floor (hotter than a sauna?), so Yuki and I sat at the dining table on the first floor. Yuki, maybe because of the heat, was behaving very difficult to deal with the first half an hour and refused to read or speak audibly or focus on his homework at all. He started to be more compliant and more interested in general later, but we didn’t finish everything we set out to do by the time his hour was up. I’m not sure what I could have done better to make the hour more pleasant and productive for him.

Luckily, I had a much easier time with Soyoka. She showed me three reviews (by three independent teachers) she received on her Science Project (parachute) presentation she did last Friday. She got an almost perfect score! Just one point off! I was very proud of her—I know she worked so hard on it. She is doing so well in school now :)!! Kind of as a reward, I’m going to get her a new sketchbook and mechanical pencil with a twist-top replaceable eraser because she used up all the pages of the last sketchbook (in just one month!) while working on her Silk Road Project and her current pencil is defective.

Poor Mrs. Wada, who normally would work on her shadow box works at the dining table or do some household chores, fell asleep upstairs as she waited for us. At the end of the two hours, she looked tired out. I felt tired too. (I hope I didn’t look it!)

On highway 85 on the way home from the Wada’s, I thought that my lane was ending and merging with the next (it happens twice when you get on the highway from Winchester Ave) and switched to the next lane over, but I must have annoyed the driver behind me in the lane over because I made him slow down a little. I found out as soon as I changed lanes that the lane wasn’t ending at all and I had already merged twice. Oops :P I wish I could blame that on the heat, but I was just being an airhead. Must be more careful…

Once home, Mom and I went out again to do grocery shopping. I got stuff to make salads since I was having a veggie craving and was also just getting an appetite at last. At Long’s I got Soyoka’s mechanical pencil. I was a little surprised that it cost almost $8. Did it cost that much when I got mine? Oh, well. Back home I fixed myself a bowl of rice, natto, and egg; a bowl of baby spinach mixed with the pack of Ready Made European style salad I just got; baby carrots; and a tall glass of grape juice. Seri came home soon after and saw what I had in front of me—no meat, and everything she liked on display. She sat next to me and ate some of everything there, especially the salad. She had to refill the bowl with more salad. Now that bag is empty! I was happy to see her eating :) She reminded me of Aiko to because she was descending on food and “taking” a taste of everything :D

Aiko came home after that and wanted to go running, so after she finished eating lightly and watching Ally McBeal, I got ready to skate. Digging in my closet, I found all my protective gear this time and put them on after I changed into jeans first. I attached a pedometer on her so we could see how far we go today. Earlier, I had wanted to go walking with Mom, but she was too tired, so I was glad that I was going to do something resembling exercise due to Aiko. She ran/I skated for 32 min (Aiko: “Aaarrrgh, 2 min too long!!”), which equaled 3.12 miles. Dare I assume that since I skated in curves and circles about her that I might have skated 3.5 to 4 miles? That’d be so cool. Hopefully, one day, I can skate 20 miles pretty hard with no problem. Hahaha…it’ll be awhile, but I want to one day be able to skate with the group that skates on the trail by the Monterey Bay Aquarium and through the 17 mile Drive (on Sundays). Guess that’s one of my long-term goals. My leg felt okay (still some pain, but very manageable). I hope I can ice skate soon too—hockey!!
