ahead

yes a new year ahead of us…

may this year be filled with kindness and compassion…
and more art making!!!

no doubt about that;)

…as I just signed to Misty Mawn new online workshop

I am still working on her Full Circle workshop, as well as Gillian Smith Unearth Gather Create…

Also, recently my friend Lyn gifted me a Year of Painting with Alena Hennessy!!!!

ahead of myself? oh well…

So…dear friends, a wonderful year to you!

Saturday morning play

Carving my own stamps gives me great satisfaction.. I guess this is about creating something from scratch and then making it work…

I started by designing my stamp from a branch of gum tree flower pods I had collected a while ago…

I am so happy how it turned out…

A box of reminders

One of the fabulous project of Full Circle workshop from Misty Mawn is to create an explosion box… box of dreams as she called it…

For me, this will be my box of reminders…

to remind me where I came from, the journey within,
my yearning for more, for freedom mostly;
my desire for growth and integration…
(despite the running away)

my inner discoveries and exploration…
to remind myself that I matter,
that I am enough…
little and lost at times,
grounded and powerful the other times;)

and that I am daring greatly!!

always a story

it’s a story of life…
of getting lost so many times
with no compass, perhaps an old map
and on new hills, breathing too fast, but breathing

it’s a story of life
of learning and daring
wandering between the chaos and still waters
through the darkness of new shores, without light

it’s a story of life
of discovery and courage
it’s about daring greatly.

Observe

There is no art without observing. No learning either. Observing is an essential key for understanding and improving a skill. I am like a child…I look around (mainly on the net or in books) and find interesting subjects to observe. Then I model, I try, experiment…and go further…as the toddler does, when feeling more secure…

I picked a model from flowrsinherhair’s blog http://www.flowrsinherhair.co.za/ and decided to give it a go. This lovely girl looks nothing like hers, however I’m very happy with the end result!

What I learned through this exercise: Looking behind what I see, further than the lines or the character, to see all the colors that make such perfect blend… but not only! painting the soul is another pair of brush!!!
Beautiful learning!!

A process

The creative process is such an interesting one, certainly not a linear one…
Layers after layers, things keep appearing…

And disappearing.

With finally a sense of direction (after so many despairing moments). I sort of knew where it was going, without knowing at all!

As I’m trying to describe this process for this post, I find it difficult to put in sentence a five-week exercise of acrylic painting. Words aren’t the best option to describe the emotions in relation to creative expression.

Certainly my soul understood!

Sketching

When we were kids, my sister and I had a large collection of comic books. One of them was Yakari, stories of a little Native American and his mustang, Petit Tonnerre – Little Storm. My Dad, who has amazing drawing skills, used to draw, upon our requests, Yakari and his horse and other animals on our school books as cover. I always admired and envied my Dad’s skills and ability to draw and I wish I could provide here copies of his sketches and drawings. He could reproduce any animals perfectly, with its characteristic and personality. I always thought I couldn’t draw..

Well, through the current absence of strucuture (job, home, friends and family, and even belongings), I have recently discovered that I can immensely enjoy myself by drawing flowers..
