1453: Ron Weinberg

Ron Weinberg

Ron Weinberg is a state representative in Colorado. He was appointed to his seat when Rep. Hugh McKean died. He is also the former chair of the Larimer County GOP. He was seeking the minority whip position in the Republican House caucus, but stepped back after complaints about his past behavior toward women when he was Larimer County Chair.

McKean’s former partner reported that she called Weinberg to ask him about sexual harassment allegations against him. When she mentioned that he needed to improve his behavior or risk losing the next election. She had nominated Kristy Hall for the seat that Weinberg was appointed. He responded to her advice, saying that if Hall challenged him, he would “kick her in the pussy.”

Nearly a dozen people have come forward with examples of his inappropriate behavior toward women. Three women came forward with allegations of sexual harassment at a GOP event. He questions the timing of these allegations, but they are not recent and officials were aware before he joined the Legislature. Four women who were involved in the Larimer County GOP reported they blocked his number of didn’t answer his calls because he was abusive on the phone.

At the event where three allegations came from, a bystander intervened to assist one woman and walked her to her room. He confirmed her account. One of his exchanges was with a woman right in front of her husband and included Weinberg telling the husband he would have sex with his wife, though he used another word. He apologized, but then he did it again a year later.

He has other issues as well. He’s been accused of acquiring a master key and using it to get into other legislators’ offices. He denied it and as there was no definitive proof, they simply changed the locks. Another Republican accused him of misusing campaign funds. What is striking is almost all the complaints are from fellow Republicans.

1450: Stewart Ruch

Stewart Ruch

Stewart Ruch is a bishop in the Anglican Church of North America, the schismatic group that left the Episcopal Church in opposition to its “liberalism” in allowing the ordination of women, inclusion of LGBTIQA members, and gay marriage. He is facing an ecclesiastical (church) trial over allegations that he covered up serial sexual abuse of children.

He is not accused of committing sexual abuse of children, but of protecting priests who abused children. From the presentment of the case against Ruch, it is alleged that Ruch “demonstrated a pattern and practice of knowingly and silently welcoming men into the ranks of church leadership without first informing his congregants of their past incidents of violence and/or abuse…he has transformed what should be, of all spaces, a sanctuary for the most vulnerable, into a target for predation.”

The case against him also alleges he showed more support for alleged abusers than for their victims. They went on to include the evidence of his cover-up and protection of seven alleged sexual predators. In another presentment from the Bishops who worked on the investigation, it is alleged there were twelve accused of abuse and six admitted it.

For more information, see ACNAtoo, a group formed in 2021 in response to allegations of sexual abuse and its cover-up.

Hayden knew the twelve-year-old child through a church membership program. He picked up the child to play basketball and was observed by nearby drivers to be groping the child’s genitals several times in what seemed to be an attempt to arouse the child and have the child attempt to arouse him.

During the investigation, deputies identified two additional victims, both students at the school where Hayden worked. Additional charges were filed.

He allegedly sexually abused a girl from when she was fourteen until she was eighteen. She testified to the grand jury and had messages that showed his awareness of her age, including references to school and getting her driver’s license. His lawyer argued that he hasn’t been molesting minors since 2017 when that “relationship” ended.

1445: Caitlin Crum

Caitlin Crum

Caitlin Rose Crum was a teacher at Calvary Christian Academy in Middleburg, Florida. She was arrested when a student reported meeting her for “multiple sexual encounters.” This is the same school where Joshua Dice taught.

Crum first met the girl before she became a teacher and continued meeting with her at her relatives’ homes from January to May 2022. One time, Crum recorded their encounter on the victim’s phone.

She was sentenced for willful child abuse and put on probation.

The only clipping I could find mentions her in the last paragraph because a second teacher was recently charged with similar crimes at the same school

1444: J. Stuart Adams

J. Stuart Adams

J. Stuart Adams is the Republican President of the Utah State Senate. He told a colleague, Sen. Kirk Cullimore, about his granddaughter’s legal troubles (charged with child rape and child sodomy) and asked him to look into changing the Romeo-Juliet Law.

She was 18 and raped a thirteen-year-old minor, outside the Romeo-Juliet exemption that recognizes teen romances where one partner is technically and adult. However, the usual age difference allowed is 3 or 4 years. She was charged with two counts of child rape and two counts of child sodomy. Mandatory sentencing required some jail time and registering as a sex offender. She would not agree to a plea deal requiring registering as a sex offender.

Cullimore asked his granddaughter’s lawyer what would be ideal and the granddaughter’s lawyer actually drafted the language. He introduced a bill to allow for third-degree charges for raping a minor. Adams did not disclose to his other colleagues or the governor that the law would benefit his granddaughter.

The prosecutor, when speaking about the issue, said that the law’s passage allowed him to advocate for a lesser sentence that allowed Adams’ granddaughter to avoid prison and did not require her to register as a sex offender. She pleaded guilty to assault and sexual battery (a misdemeanor) and was sentenced to four years probation. The judge, prosecutor and defense attorney all agreed that the legislative change did impact how the charges were resolved.

It is interesting that journalists very carefully do not identify the convicted adult felon who is his granddaughter, treating her like the victim rather than the perpetrator of a serious sex crime.
