Pumpkin on a Vine

Hi everyone,

I’m happy that my picture book set for September 8 now has a cover that you can see on Amazon.

The book can be preordered now and is off to a nice start. It is for young readers/listeners and can be acted out as it’s read aloud. I love the pictures created by ALICE FEAGAN, a first-time collaborator. More information as we get closer to release date. My thanks as always to my editor at Holiday House, GRACE MACCARONE.

A Tree is out in paperback

Hi everyone,

I’ve received copies of A Tree is a Community in paperback. I knew it was coming out soon but now I have proof. The back cover has been put to good use to promote two other HARRISON/COSGROVE titles, And the Bullfrogs Sing,A Life Cycle Begins and The Dirt Book, Poems About, Poems About Animals that Live Beneath Our Feet.

I apologize for the sloppy post of the back cover. WordPress has made some change in how I must post pictures and it’s driving me crazy. No idea what to do. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. Hopefully, I’ll get it figured out soon. Thanks for your patience until then.

A new book coming in September

Hi everyone,

A few months ago I told you I’d received sketches for my next picture book, Pumpkin on a Vine. I originally wrote the story to be a class exercise as a favor for a longtime professor friend of mine at Brigham Young University, TERRELL YOUNG, who was working with kindergarten teacher AMY SHAKESPEARE WHITE in Salt Lake City. The kids had a good time following the actions in the story and Amy sent me some very cute pictures of them in action.

Years later I partnered with JANE YOLEN to write a collection of poems about seeds and included the pumpkin poem. GRACE MACCARONE at Holiday House liked the pumpkin poem but couldn’t use the collection. I wrote a watermelon poem to replace the pumpkin, sold Grace that one for a book, and Jane and I placed the seed manuscript with a different publisher. It should be out next year.

Meanwhile, the pumpkin poem, now titled Pumpkin on the Vine, has just been listed on Amazon with a September 8 release date. I’m delighted.

A Tree goes Korean

Hi everyone,

Artist KATE COSGROVE and I learned yesterday that our collaboration, A Tree is a Community, will come out in June in a Korean translation.

It has already been translated into Portuguese by JAYME DA COSTA PINTO for the Brazilian publisher, Carambaia.

This is the first time I’ve been in Portuguese and the second time in Korean. Way to go, TREE!
