Check the compass

In doubt, in fear, in the darkness, alone or among the entire world, with a multitude of questions. or direction. I will always go back to this magnificent book that is Letters to a Young Poet from Rainer Maria Rilke. It works like a compass for me.

from brainpickings.org

If your daily life seems poor, do not blame it; blame yourself, tell yourself that you are not poet enough to call forth its riches; for to the creator there is no poverty and no poor indifferent place.

~Rainer Maria Rilke

But recently I found another compass in the book of Cheryl Strayed, Tiny Beautiful Things, advice on life and love from someone who’s been there.

from Goodreads.com

This book is a gem, right! so clearly, I can’t pick A quote… so here, a few…

The story of human intimacy is one of constantly allowing ourselves to see those we love most deeply in a new, more fractured light. Look hard. Risk that.

Forgiveness doesn’t sit there like a pretty boy in a bar. Forgiveness is the old fat guy you have to haul up a hill.

The best thing you can possibly do with your life is to tackle the motherfucking shit out of it.

Have a lovely week end sweet peas;) (aka Sugar, Tiny Beautiful Things)

Bloomin’ away

I’ve told you about the Bloom True e-course earlier… Well we are at our second week!!

Two canvases on their way… Painting and buying new colors.

It’s strange, I haven’t been as happy as I thought I would be. Perhaps my expectations were too high or the process is too slow for the impatient that I am!! Not sure..

The process is certainly different and challenging, as the result is confronting. I simply don’t like it (I know, it’s so far from being finished).. So here are a few Instagram close up pics… (Which help me to see my painting in another way and maybe start to like it)!

Balthus et Rossiniere

IMG_3048

Balthus, his wife Setsuko and their daughter Harumi arrived in my home village, Rossiniere around 1977-78 and established themselves at the Grand Chalet, historical monument of the region, magnificient wooden chalet built around 1754. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Chalet.

I was 7 and I remember the sight of this Japanese woman bringing her child to the village school for the first time. Setsuko was dressed in a traditional Japanese kimono and looked like coming from another world to the seven year old child that I was. After a while, a few girls of the village, including me, became friend with Harumi and occasionally we played at the Grand Chalet.

I got to look at Balthus’ work only later in life. Art is like poetry I think. I had to mature to be able to access and appreciate.

Balthus, who in the early years of his life, had a strong connection with Rainer Maria Rilke (one of my favorite author), had many artists and poets visiting and walking the paths of my little village.

Balthus died in 2001. His wife Setsuko still lives in Rossiniere.

Grateful for this culture and art enrichment and for my Swiss roots!!

Still away

While on holiday, I must admit, I am missing my studio heaps! This is totally new to me and I’m enjoying this new experience. However I’m also getting very impatient to put a blank canvas in my easel and start the Bloom True e-course.

So, with my little drawing pad, I’ve been playing, pretending I’m patient;)

While I’m away..

I will be away a few days on holiday, visiting my husband’s family in Queensland. In the mean time, Bloom True course will start!!!!!!!! (& I’ll be so impatient to come back to start it)…

I feel very excited about this new adventure…

Here are few pics of my latest experiment. I tried lots of different things. I wanted to loosen up, not being so into erasing the little mistakes or sharp edges so much… Also a desire to try without being pressured… And staying spontaneous. The last thing was a real challenge: painting with black (the color of bravery apparently)! And not covering it up afterwards!!!! Well … It was harder than I thought and didn’t like it at all! And I did cover it up!

And a few new experiments…

…sick at home and reflecting…

I am totally amazed on how life can totally and continually surprise us.

We arrived in Darwin in July 2013, after an amazing 2-month trip across Australia. It then took us two months to find jobs and a house to settle in. Now, six months after getting into our rented house in Rapid Creek, I am thrilled and energized by this new emerging part of me who dare to create, paint, draw and show off!!

As our new home allowed it, I decided to use a room as my studio. I always used to paint a little bit on small canvases with a little starter kit and mini paint tubes. It was time to get real stuff! I invested in colors and new paint brushes. My husband made my art table, spacious and solid.

Since then, it has never stopped to grow… everything, the color selection, the size of the canvas and my yearning to learn more and try more and have a go…

This is truly a revelation!!!!

So to someone who would say that they can’t draw or paint, I would say…’actually have you ever tried?’… Trying, really trying, experimenting, daring to dare…

You may be surprised by what you discover…

What a frill

With my little G12 and some patience, I caught my first lightnings!!! Exciting for a novice like me!!! The Northern Territory is a great place to catch lightning…It happens quite often during the wet season and the lightnings are quite slow for some reasons. Stunning effects to grab, which re instigate my desire to get myself a new Canon soon.

Connecting

Have you ever traveled on the other side of the world, and while discovering some ‘unexplored’ land, bumped into an old friend or a neighbor, who’s doing his own discoveries… If you have, you probably then said “gee… such a small world” or something like that.

Well..this is how I feel right now, after connecting with people around the world, and being inspired by their art..their energy, what they are seeing through their own eyes. And this, simply via social media with people who have similar interests, common desire and this same need to express their creative genius…
