    Many of these have been found 20,000+ y old, most of ivory or bone but some of wood. Heavy wear at the holes, most discarded after breaking. Scientists puzzled by what they were, put in museums as ritual objects. Until medieval hobbyist saw them and said “cool, a rope maker”.
