Assistive Technology (AT) Highlights
Oklahoma ABLE Tech is proud to partner with the Oklahoma Human Services Community Living, Aging and Protective Services (CAP) division for the AT Respite Kit project. A primary caregiver is someone who provides day-to-day care to another person, such as a parent caring for a child or an adult caring for an elderly family member. Using assistive technology (AT) can make serving as a primary caregiver easier. To help meet caregiver needs, Oklahoma ABLE Tech has added the Sensory Regulation and Engagement Kit to our Device Loan Inventory. This kit includes seven items and is available to borrow for up to six weeks.
The Sensory Regulation and Engagement Kit is designed to provide soothing, engaging sensory experiences that support self-regulation, attention, and meaningful interaction. The items in this kit offer predictable, gentle sensory input that can help individuals feel grounded, engaged, and relaxed in home, care, or therapeutic environments. This kit combines visual, tactile, and movement-based sensory tools to promote calm engagement, reduce sensory overload, and encourage purposeful exploration across a wide range of ages and abilities. This kit can be used during structured activity time or as part of daily routines to support emotional regulation and sensory needs.
The Sensory Regulation and Engagement Kit includes the rechargeable sensory light, Pushpeel Sensory Activity Board, light-up busy board, sensory sleeve, and Breathing Buddy. Note: The individual device links will direct users to the product’s Amazon or direct purchase listing.
- The rechargeable sensory light projector is an AT device using visual sensory input through slowly moving light patterns projected onto walls or ceilings. The rechargeable light supports relaxation, visual engagement, and sensory regulation. This device may benefit individuals with autism, Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, anxiety, or sensory processing differences who respond positively to visual stimulation. It can be used during calming routines, quiet time, or when preparing for sleep.
- The Pushpeel Sensory Activity Board is an AT tool that provides tactile and fine motor sensory input through pushing, peeling, and pressing the silicone components. The repetitive motions of peeling multiple silicone textures and different resistance levels can support focus, stress reduction, and hand engagement. The board is lightweight and portable, making it perfect for tabletop or lap use. The Pushpeel Sensory Activity Board may benefit individuals with autism, dementia, attention differences, or anxiety who benefit from hands-on sensory activities.
- The light-up busy board is a switch-adapted AT device that provides visual, tactile, and cause-and-effect sensory feedback through interactive toggles and light-activated buttons. This device may benefit individuals with autism, dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, or cognitive disabilities who benefit from structured sensory exploration and purposeful hand use.
- The fidget and sensory sleeve is a wearable sleeve with different tactile and visual elements to keep the user’s hands busy. The sleeve features a variety of textures and small interactive elements that encourage touching, sliding, and manipulating objects. These repetitive hand movements can support sensory regulation, reduce restlessness, and provide calming engagement. The sleeve can be worn on either arm or placed on someone’s lap. The fidget and sensory sleeve is lightweight and portable, making it great to use at home, in care settings, or during travel. Individuals who may benefit from this device include individuals with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias, autistic individuals, individuals with anxiety, and individuals who benefit from tactile sensory stimulation and repetitive hand activities. Caregivers may also use the sleeve as part of structured sensory activities or quiet engagement during the day.
- The Breathing Buddy is a self-regulation and relaxation AT device used to guide users through slow breathing exercises with visual light cues. Simple button controls change the device’s colors, brightness, and breathing modes to indicate when to inhale and exhale. It can also be used as a nightlight to support relaxation before sleep. The portable design makes it easy to place the Breathing Buddy on a tabletop, nightstand, or desk. Individuals who may benefit from this device include autistic individuals, individuals with anxiety, individuals with attention differences, children who are learning calming strategies, and individuals with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias who benefit from visual cues for relaxation.

Oklahoma ABLE Tech’s Device Loan Program inventory offers more than 2,300 devices across 10 AT categories, including hearing, speech communication, vision, learning cognition/development, seating/positioning/mobility, daily living, recreation, environmental adaptations, computer access, and vehicle modifications.
