Device Demonstration

The Device Demonstration Program allows individuals to compare the features and benefits of a particular assistive technology (AT) device. They can also give you the ability to see, touch, and try multiple devices to help in the decision-making process by providing:

  • Hands-on exploration of devices
  • Information on the latest technology
  • Low-tech solutions and adaptations
  • Vendor sources with prices

Oklahoma ABLE Tech is able to provide device demonstrations free of cost in-person in our Stillwater office or virtually via a video conference application (i.e. Zoom, Microsoft Teams, etc.). If you are interested in setting up a demonstration with an Oklahoma ABLE Tech staff member, please complete the AT Consultations for Individuals intake form.

If you have questions or need assistance completing the AT Consultation intake form, please contact Oklahoma ABLE Tech.

Smart Home Demonstration Sites

Smart homes may include AT, enabling technologies, and durable medical equipment (DME). All of these provide individuals with disabilities with the opportunity to be more independent in their homes and/or receive remote support from family members or caregivers.

Our demonstration site allows individuals to get a first-hand experience with how smart home technology may help them regain or achieve independence. Oklahoma ABLE Tech has smart home demonstration sites in Oklahoma City, Stillwater, and partner locations in Bethany and Tulsa.

Demonstration Success Story

a toddler with light skin and blonde hair in a high ponytail smiles at the camera as she tests a water-filled adaptive switch, called a Gooshy Switch.

Wren is an active and sweet two-year-old from Logan County who participates in SoonerStart. Wren was diagnosed at six months of age with Rett Syndrome. Rett Syndrome is a rare genetic disorder that affects brain development-typically causing a progressive loss of motor skills and language.

Wren’s family recently visited Oklahoma ABLE Tech in Stillwater, Oklahoma, to explore assistive technology (AT) that might improve Wren’s quality of life. The family was given the opportunity to have multiple devices demonstrated-gaining hands-on experience and guidance in the use of AT.

Wren enjoyed exploring different toys and switches with the goal of finding a device(s) that would expand her independence at play. Her mom stated, “We will keep exploring AT to continue to find tools that can improve Wren’s quality of life.”

Demonstrations and short-term loans of assistive technology are available to all Oklahomans. The staff of Oklahoma ABLE Tech were pleased to assist Wren and her family, in partnership with her SoonerStart providers, to identify and lend AT that allows Wren to function more independently and to live more comfortably and joyfully.
