Weer een nummer van Frank, variaties op het thema van het nummer Mr. Green Genes van het album Uncle Meat. Hij experimenteerde hier met variabele opnamesnelheden, en zijn gitaargeluid hier vind ik tot de beste Zappa sounds horen, samen met de Roxy periode.

Status Quo’s 2nd single, from 1968. Back when they still were hippies, and hadn’t discovered the boogie yet! I think this one is on the same level as Pictures of Matchstick Men; it failed to chart though.

Vandaag werd ik wakker met een sketch van Jiskefet in mijn hoofd, en dan vooral de muziek op de achtergrond: een remix van Mambo Gallego van Tito Puente. Helaas zijn alle sketches van Jiskefet offline gehaald sinds ze de boel aan Amazon Prime hebben verkocht… hierboven het origineel, hieronder de D-code remix.
Er is nog een oudere versie, uit 1959, met een iets ander ritme, door een andere groep: Conjunto Casino. Elke versie heeft zijn charme vind ik!

Zappa’s satirische anti-hippie album, uitgebracht midden in de hippie periode (1968) en zijn tijd ver vooruit. In feite is dit Hey Joe met een weird tempo en andere tekst. Zappa experimenteerde met verschillende opnamesnelheden.
Hier zijn beide zang tracks achter elkaar, waarin de zang op normale snelheid klinkt.

1966, protopunk from the Netherlands with whacky lyrics. The band is tight and full of fuzz though, and doesn’t sound like anything available back then. I love this so much that I made the intro my custom ringtone.

I was cleaning out a box with old sheet music I collected in the nineties, when I found the lyrics of this [[Neil Young]] song. I completely forgot about it! it’s a weird trippy psychedelic post apocalyptic song and I love it. Happy to have found it back!
