Who can run for the Students’ Association Elections?

  1. Any registered student for the current academic year who meets specific program requirements. Some programs do not qualify; make sure to confirm your program eligibility with the Students’ Association.
  2. A student who fulfills the position criteria outlined in the RRCSA Bylaws.
  3. A student in good standing with the Students' Association.
  4. A student who agrees to work office hours at the relevant campus.
  5. Someone who has not been removed from an executive or board position for cause.
  6. Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 during their term and be willing to share their GPA and other information with relevant committees.

What positions are up for election?

The 4 positions open for election are:

• The Students’ Association President:

The SA President represents students at both the Notre Dame Campus and Exchange District Campus and is responsible for handling election and referendum inquiries, overseeing governance and internal reviews, and managing media relations. They advocate for students through organizations like the Canadian Alliance of Student Associations and Manitoba Students Inc. Additionally, they address issues raised by the Students’ Association Board, manage significant college-wide issues, and oversee the Compassionate Bursary program to support students in need.

• The Vice President Academic:

The VP of Academics deals with Notre Dame Campus meeting appeals, manages scholarship programs, and handles governance and internal review of inquiries. They lead monthly info meetings at the Notre Dame Campus, promote mental health initiatives like Healthy Minds Healthy College, and tackle academic integrity concerns. They are also involved in sexual violence awareness efforts and oversee the Compassionate Bursary program to support students in need.

• The Vice President of Internal Affairs:

The VP of Internal Affairs represents students at the Notre Dame Campus and leads financial and community initiatives, manages inquiries for the Finance Committee and the Students’ Association Building Trust Fund, and keeps meeting minutes. They also handle inquiries from student clubs, oversee the Compassionate Bursary program, and work to promote sustainability on campus.

• The Vice President of External Affairs:

The VP of External Affairs represents students at the Exchange District Campus and regional campuses, advocating at the federal level with the Canadian Alliance of Student Associations and at the provincial level with Manitoba Students Inc. They manage inquiries from clubs at these campuses, oversee the Elections, Appointment, and Referenda Committee, lead the Advocacy Committee, and are responsible for the Compassionate Bursary program to support students in need. They also handle the appeals of the Exchange District Campus and the Regional Campuses for students.

How do I vote?

When can I vote?

Voting for the Red River College Students’ Association elections opens on Monday, March 2, 2026, at 9:00 AM (Central Time) and closes on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at 3:00 PM.

What should I do if I see inappropriate behavior during any stage of the election process?

To maintain a clean election, there are rules and regulations that the candidates are expected to follow. Should there be an instance where these rules are violated, you may submit a complaint through our https://rrcsa.ca/elections/complaint/

It will be reviewed and decided by the CRO within 3-5 business days.
Demerits may be given to candidates according to the Elections Demerit System.

What do I need to do to prepare and run in the elections?

  • Be mindful of the deadlines for the different stages of the elections and the requirements to run for a position. To follow up on this date, please refer to the Elections - Red River College Students' Association
  • Decide which position is best for you.
  • Read through the Election Policy and Procedures and become familiar with the election process.
  • Watch the three (3) Election Training Modules by January 26, 2026, to receive the SA Training Certificate of Completion, which must be submitted along with the application form.
  • Fill out the application form and submit it before the deadline on January 26, 2026.
  • Upon applying, set up a Pre-Election meeting with the RRCSA to go through Election requirements and obligations. This step is mandatory and must be done before Thursday, February 5, 12:00 PM.

How do I address any election complaint and/or concern?

Any Red River College Polytechnic community member (students and staff) can fill out a complaint through the https://rrcsa.ca/elections/complaint/

In the complaint form, you must provide your name, RRC Polytech ID number, date, and proof of the complaint, besides any other relevant information that will allow the CRO (Chief Returning Officer) to follow up on the complaint.

The Chief Returning Officer, who oversees the election will investigate all the complaints and concerns and make decisions based on the nature and severity of the complaint or concern.

Those who file a complaint and/or concern will not be informed of the decision of the CRO, as their decision is final. However, you might be contacted in case the CRO requires you to provide more information about your complaint or concern.

How to change the selected position after the application is submitted?

Candidates can change their executive application position by filling out the online form by Thursday, February 5, 2026, by 4:00 PM.

DEMERIT SYSTEM

Major Violations 10 Points
  • Any slanderous/libel remarks, defamatory comments, or hate speech made about another candidate, person, or group of people during any campaign event, on a media post, or at any time during the campaign. Past behavior may be considered.
  • Failure to attend a scheduled meeting (ex. Mandatory Candidate Orientation) without a suitable reason and/or notifying the SA President or CRO of the SA prior to the meeting date.
  • Electoral interference, including touching the device that a student is using to vote, watching a student's screen while they are voting, demanding or pressuring a student to disclose who they voted for.
Serious Violations 5 Points
  • Campaigning outside the campaigning period. Do NOT post anything or do campaigning before Friday, February 24, 2024.
  • Overspending the maximum campaign spending limit of three hundred dollars ($300).
  • Not submitting the candidate's self-recorded speech and other campaign materials by the deadline.
  • Campaigning/promoting for another candidate through social media or other means.
  • If found spreading or engaging in privacy or confidentiality of opponents.
  • Using spamming messages for election campaigning within the college.
Moderate Violations 3 Points
  • Using 'Red River College Polytechnic' or 'RRCSA' in candidate social media or campaign URLs.
  • Placing campaign materials in unauthorized places.
  • Using official RRC Polytech or RRCSA logos on campaign materials.
  • Every $75 spent over the $300 maximum.
  • Not complying with online rules or not submitting online URL sites.
  • Failure to submit campaign expenditures sheet.
  • Accepting external funding without disclosure.
  • Visible campaigning in the SA office without permission.
Minor Violations 2 Points
  • Spreading false information about opposing candidates.
  • Defacing or removing opposing candidates' campaign materials.
  • Issuing misleading statements or promises to voters.
Technical Violations 1 Point
  • Disrupting opponent's campaign events or debates.
  • Posts, posters, or comments deemed inappropriate or violating social media guidelines.
  • Campaigning within a designated quiet zone.
  • Not disclosing campaigning team within the specified period.
  • Missing submission deadlines (1 point per 24 hours).
  • Attempting to use SA staff members to promote or assist with campaign.
