The Maitland-Australian approach is extremely patient-centric and focuses upon highly specific subjective & objective physical examination processes. Clinical Reasoning and constant reassessment are taught and emphasized. Methods of assessment and treatment are demonstrated during the live component of the course and a real-time patient assessment is demonstrated and analyzed. Techniques taught include:
Regions extensively covered include: Cervical, Thoracic (including rib articulations) and Lumbar spine. Neurodynamic assessments and treatment of the upper and lower limbs is included and integrated with the associated spinal regions. The hard-bound course manual includes detailed step-by-step instructions for each technique and more than 270 photographs. Over 900 references are provided. Course Schedule A blended online and live learning experience, in which the pre-course materials and additional home study are provided through MAPS Online Learning, in combination with a live two-day weekend seminar through our virtual classroom. The live component of the month-long course takes place one night each week through our virtual classroom for 4 consecutive weeks . Note: Exact time schedule below is subject to change. If I attend MT-2 REMOTE LIVE, should I also attend the MT-2 Skills Check Lab? The MT-2 Skills Check Lab is the hands-on lab-only component of the 2-day live, in-person MT-2: Essential Spinal Seminar supervised by a MAPS expert instructor. To take the more advanced MAPS courses (MT-3: Intermediate Spinal Seminar) or to become a Certified Orthopedic Manual Therapist (COMT), completion of the live in-person MT-2 Skills Check Lab is required. We also recommend the MT-2 Skills Check Lab for those looking to perfect the manual therapy skills learned in MT-2: Essential Spinal Seminar – REMOTE LIVE or for those who took MT-2 years ago and are looking to refine their manual therapy skills. MT-2 Skills Check Lab Pre-requisites: MT-2: Essential Spinal REMOTE LIVE or the live, in-person MT-2: Essential Spinal Seminar. (An additional charge of $25-75 will be required for shipping of the course manual outside of the U.S.)
IMPORTANT NOTE: Once a participant has accessed the online content of a course, that registration is no longer be eligible for refund, and the ability to transfer will be limited to the registered participant, who is free to transfer into another MT-1 or MT-2 course on the MAPS schedule, if such a transfer is requested at least two weeks prior to the course date. Transfers into other MAPS courses or to another individual will not be allowed after the participant has commenced the online content of the course.

Attention ATs, COTAs, OTs, and PTAs attending MAPS courses. These clinicians attending any MAPS course specifically agree to identify themselves to the Course Instructor and limit their laboratory practice to the assessment of physiological movement up to but not beyond the first onset of resistance (R1). Thus, as stated in the Course Objectives, ATs, COTAs, OTs, and PTAs are required to limit their lab practice to only Grades I and II assessment, which are small and large amplitude movements respectively, which occur in the resistance free range prior to R1. Furthermore, ATs, COTAs, OTs, and PTAs attending any MAPS course specifically agree to limit their laboratory practice to physiological (osteokinematic) movements and refrain from performing accessory (arthrokinematic) movements. The practice of mobilization/manipulation is legally regulated by state Practice acts, and MAPS does not advocate that any practitioners (PT, ATs, COTAs, OTs, and PTAs or others) practice any procedure outside their legal scope of practice. MAPS course content is not intended for use by ANY participant outside the scope of their license or relevant regulations. ATs, COTAs, OTs, and PTAs attending this course agree to limit their clinical practice, during and after any MAPS course, to their specific State practice act(s), and to comply with the directions of their supervising Physical Therapist in accordance with APTA HOD RC 31-01.
