QR code interactivity

Learn how to let the public audience interact with playlists and apps/widgets via the built-in QR code interactivity.

Multi-projector limitation: A single user can interact with only one projector at a time. Therefore, in group installations, the interactive content element remains limited within a single projector screen.

  • Navigate to Projects (main menu, third row)
  • Click 'three-dots' (⋯) > 'settings-gear' above the Project that you want to enable public QR interactivity for
  • Turn "Public Interaction Mode" on
  • Advanced: You can grant public users more rights by changing "Public Rights". Recommended: keep the default "Apps"
  • Navigate to the Editor
  • Click the '+' button (bottom-right corner)
  • If you end up in the last visited folder, click the arrow-up '↑' in the top-left corner to leave the folder
  • Click the Apps '</>' tab (top-centre)
  • Click the "Tools" folder
  • Click "Public QR"
  • The interactive QR code appears in the projection inside a Media Frame.
  • Place the QR code in a nice spot and make sure the public can scan it.
  • Note: The code changes over time; you can't print it on paper and use it, as it won't work. The interactive QR code needs to be live projected to work.
  • Note: A simplified visual representation of the QR code is shown in the Editor, but this is not the correct code. Don't scan the code in the Editor, it won't work. Only the actually projected code works.

  • Navigate to the Editor
  • Click the '+' button (bottom-right corner)
  • Click the Apps '</>' tab (top-centre)
  • Click the "Tools" folder
  • Click the "Playlist"
  • A new empty playlist has been added to the canvas. (shows red 'x' in the projection, symbolizing an empty playlist)
  • Select the playlist containing Media Frame and click the 'edit-pencil' button (bottom-right corner)
  • Click the 'media-frame' tab, in the middle of the three tabs at the top
  • Disable (uncheck) the "Synchronized Timeline" option
  • Click the 'edit-pencil' tab, the very left of the three tabs at the top.
  • Click the "Items" bar
  • Use the '+' button to fill the Playlist with several different media Items ('+' button > select file > "Ok")
  • Click "Apply" to confirm changes
  • Click the 'filters' tab at the top-right corner
  • Click the '+' button to add a new filter.
  • Click the "Playlist Control" filter
  • Click 'three-dots' (⋯) > 'edit-pencil' in the Playlist Control object.
  • The "Control Mode" setting offers two Playlist Controls: "Next-Prev" uses two arrows to browse the playlist queue, and "Select Video" turns every playlist item into a button, allowing the user to play any file instantly. Click "Save" if you make changes.
  • Click the '←' in the top left corner to navigate back to the Playlist Filters
  • Click 'three-dots' (⋯) > 'joystick' button next to the "Playlist Control"
  • This is where you can use the Playlist Control. If the Playlist Control freezes on "Connecting", this is because the controller is only available when the Projection is running. Navigate to the Main Menu > Power Button (top-right corner) and switch to "Projection: Lumiverse on" to start the projection.
  • Navigate back to the Main Menu and click the 'joystick' "App Controller" bar in the fourth row
  • Use the Playlist Control
  • Navigate to the Editor
  • Click the '+' button at the bottom-right
  • Select the apps '</>' tab at the top-centre
  • The following pre-installed apps offer QR compatibility: Paint, Giphy, Tetris, Tanks, Chat
  • Select a QR-compatible app to add it to the canvas
  • Navigate back to the main menu and click the "App Controller" (fourth row)
  • You can see your newly installed interactive app in the "Controllable Apps" list.
  • You can click the app to test the Controller. If the Controller freezes, this is because the App Controller is only available when the Projection is running. Navigate to the Main Menu > Power Button (top-right corner) and switch to "Projection: Lumiverse on" to start the projection.
  • Navigate back to the Main Menu and click the 'joystick' "App Controller" bar in the fourth row
  • Click the app to test it
  • Scan the projected QR code with an external smartphone (not logged to the Lumiverse™ account)
  • Test the interactivity
  • Troubleshoot: If the QR code doesn't serve a functioning controller or requires a code, make sure the current Project is set to "Public Interaction Mode: on"

The default behavior of QR interactivity is that the selected playlist item loops forever. Still, some effects require the ability only to play once and then skip to another playlist item: For example, if you have two items in a playlist, a static dinosaur and a roaring dinosaur, and you want the dinosaur roar once and then automatically return to the static version, you can do that by adding a simple playlist program:

  • Navigate to the Editor
  • Select the Playlist containing Media Frame and click the 'edit-pencil' button (bottom-right corner)
  • Activate the "Trigger Events" radio button (second row)
  • Click "Program"
  • Here, you can create a simple rule that will activate when an item's playback ends.
  • Click the '+' button to define a New Rule
  • Set the radio button in the first row to "If Playing"
  • Select the content that, when it ends, action happens (roaring dinosaur)
  • Set the "Trigger" option to "end"
  • Set "Action" to the content that should play when the roaring dinosaur ends (static dinosaur)
  • Click "Ok" to confirm the new rule creation
  • The new rule now shows in the Playlist Program list. You can add many rules to create sophisticated programs.
  • Click "Apply" at the bottom of the screen to confirm the Playlist Program changes.

An alternative way to provide interactive access to public users is via a URL with a passcode.

  • Navigate to the Editor
  • Click the '+' button at the bottom-right
  • Select the apps '</>' tab at the top-centre
  • Click the "Tools" folder
  • Click the "Public URL" tool
  • The projector will project a URL address and a passcode, which, if typed into the browser, provides access to the interactive apps
