I remember that sweet moment when I realized my life was no longer in transition.

I love this.

How can we be friends?

I am large and you are small. Life is different for us. You see what is in front of you and explain it so perfectly but I can see what might be coming. I see the storms and hear the rumblings of war that your ears can’t hear. But you call me down to show me flowers, growing quietly, without worrying if the sun will rise tomorrow. With my eyes I bring perspective. With your eyes you bring peace.

You are too small to travel far or cross rivers but with you on my shoulders we are an unstoppable train. With you on my shoulders we can see further, we can know the unknowable, we can see the world and live this life through both sets of our eyes. Is this twice as powerful as living alone? I think it might be even more.

A New Season

The smell of the grill and fresh cut grass feel like summer to me.

I used to have BBQs with my family this time of year.

Now I don’t eat meat.

And I no longer have a family.

He always did the cooking.  On the grill, that is.

Maybe he still does.  Cook meat on Sundays.  Now there’s just one less plate at the table.

I really don’t know what they do on the weekends.

All I know, is that I’m not there.

And he’s not here.

And it’s better that way.

Crying with the Doors Wide Open (Revised)

Suzanne's avatarlearningtocry.wordpress.com

Can they hear me?

Does it matter?

I wouldn’t be concerned about someone hearing my laughter.

Why then, my sobs?

Will the sounds worry them? the voice asks

Are you hoping someone will care?

No.  I’m okay here by myself.

Sitting on the bathroom floor, letting my emotions spill out.

Pieces and parts landing where they may.

Not intended for others ears.

But if it turns out that way,

So be it.

It’s part of life.

A part not meant to be stifled.

Yet.  Sadly, we do just that.

The patent question….

A nicety…

“How are you?”

The answer expected…

“Fine”

Not…

“Well, right now my heart is breaking.  By the way, how are you?”

Today my heart is actually filled with love, and a swirl of other emotions.

It’s a wonderful release to be able to just let it all pour out.

Uninhibited.

Layer upon layer peeled back, from…

What Does It Mean

I look down at the stones on the floor, reminding me to meditate.

The little Buddha falls over with curiosity.

A harvest moon beckons me.

It’s okay when you realize,

Sometimes, we’re all a little crazy.

Fifteen Candles

Flashback

Suzanne's avatarlearningtocry.wordpress.com

We looked at pictures from last July today.  I think you’ve doubled in size.  Can it be that it was only a year ago when we sold your bike to the man who answered our add?  He met us in the parking lot, excited to make the purchase.  It was just what his son had asked for for his birthday.

Tomorrow you’re turning 15, and wearing a size 13.  I guess you always did have big feet.                                                           You rode your brother’s bike to work this summer.  To your job making salsa.  No one could believe you were only fourteen.

Isn’t it strange,

that I’m the one having growing pains.
