The conversation corner color scheme for Noblegarden is robin’s egg blue (Vortex Teal or Tidesage Teal) and peony pink (Rain Poppy Red) with accents of Bone White and Dark Gold.

I also dyed the swags along the partition walls in the front room Vortex Teal and Rain Poppy Red for Noblegarden — but I refrained from dyeing the bunting above the doorways.

The Guest Room is my playroom for non-holiday-related dye schemes for the Elegant/Elven items. To start off, here’s a Sin’dorei theme with Holy Oak Tan for the wood, Zandalari Gold for the metal, Horde Red for the cloth, and Zephras Blue for the jewels.

The red tones in the Silvermoon-style walls are actually more closely matched by Firebloom Red dye. Many of the “gold” tones in the wall gilding are actually more closely matched by Bronze or Copper dye. I used Bronze and Firebloom Red in the laundry; for this room, I wanted the bolder, brighter, higher contrast combination of Zandalari Gold and Horde Red.

Ianestin reached skill 50 in Midnight Inscription and went on a gathering and crafting spree to make new things for the House. Along with the Magnificent Towering Bookshelf and the Gilded Eversong Book seen above in the west side second floor landing conversation corner, he also made both versions of the Homely Shelves —

(the crafted shelf is the one on the far right filled with curios; the shelf on the far left is a reward from the initial “visit all the important NPCs in the city” quest and the other two are the drop from the final boss of Midnight-Magisters Terrace)
— and the Floating Void-Touched Tome.

I iterated the curtains around the bed in the Ren’dorei room, as well.

Kaelinda got her Midnight Herbalism to skill 100, granting a Shop Sign to adorn the entry to the greenhouse!

I managed to max out my House XP from Endeavor tasks during the Blood Elf Artists Endeavor. By the time it was over, I was completing Endeavor tasks and only getting Community Coupons, not House XP, and my House was about 75% of the way from level 8 to level 9.

You guys. I had such a hard time today focusing on adulting things like grading papers and doing the dishes knowing that the Story Mode for the March on Quel’Danas raid was open with this week’s reset and I could finish the 12.0 Campaign. We knew coming into Midnight that part of the story of this expansion would involve gathering the elven tribes, so I hope it won’t be too spoilery to post a few (okay, maybe more than a few) dialogue-less pictures of Kaelinda observing the Grand Council of the Elves.

Thalyssra, Lor’themar, Arator, Vereesa, Shandris, Umbric, Rommath, Halduron, Liadrin, Aethas

Both the story itself and the way it was told worked for me. It may be merely adequate, not outstanding, storytelling, and perhaps I will read a critique of the story and the storytelling and even agree with some of the points that writer makes, but I liked them well enough for what they were.

This expansion is called “Midnight” and it’s in the Empire Strikes Back position in the trilogy. I would have been rather disappointed in the storytelling, I think, if we didn’t lose, and lose hard, in the first raid of the expansion. We definitely lost at the end of Voidspire. And despite the hopeful glow of the War of Light and Shadow finale, there are anvil-sized hints that we have still lost, and lost hard. I’m intrigued to see where the story will go next… hopefully more coherently than the War Within story progression.

Okay, so, now that Eversong Woods and Ghostlands have gotten a glow-up treatment and allow flying, will one of the later Patches of this expansion do the same thing for Azuremyst and Bloodmyst Isles, combining them into a single enhanced zone with flying enabled, for parity for the Draenei?

I am pleased that between my crafted gear, upgrades from World Quests, and the gear from the Endgame Campaign questline itself, Kaelinda now has enough item level to do the Voidspire/Dreamrift/March on Quel’Danas LFR and begin collecting that Tier set. That and doing Saltheril’s Soiree will be her main objectives. Kaelyla will work on Sojourner quests in Voidstorm, Ianestin will work on Sojourner quests in Harandar, and Ishaleron will work on Sojourner quests in Zul’Aman. I’ll probably try to do Legends of the Haranir every week; I may or may not try to do Abundance every week; I’ll probably ignore Stormarion Citadel and end up with Singularity Renown being the last to cap.

BTH’s six-month subscription ran out and he wasn’t engaged enough with Midnight to want to renew, so Kamalia is now more or less on the bench for the rest of the expansion. Maybe she’ll just hang out in the Arcantina with all the other old warriors until she’s done all the quests there. She got the full 12.0 Endgame Campaign set from the pre-Voidspire and Voidspire-to-March on Quel’danas-bridge questlines first, though!

Kaelinda finished the Eversong Woods Campaign and did the first few quests of the entry questlines for each of the other three zones and flew around exploring in Harandar and Voidstorm to complete the Midnight Explorer Achievement and dinged 160 Midnight-90 from picking an herb. She’s finished up the Eversong Woods Sojourner questlines and is now working her way through a first go at each of the factions’ special events.

Voidbreaker’s Chainmail

Voidbreaker’s Casque, Voidbreaker’s Spaulders, Voidbreaker’s Mantle, Voidbreaker’s Cuirass, Voidbreaker’s Gauntlets, Voidbreaker’s Sash, Voidbreaker’s Legguards, Voidbreaker’s Waders, Voidbreaker’s Mace, and Voidbreaker’s Wall
This gear is rewarded from the Midnight 12.0 Endgame Campaign leading into the Voidspire raid; the weapons are from the Voidspire-to-March-on-Quel’Danas bridge questline.

Voidbreaker’s Threads

Zedling Summoning Collar, Voidbreaker’s Flames, Voidbreaker’s Cape, Voidbreaker’s Robe, Voidbreaker’s Glovettes, Voidbreaker’s Clasp, Voidbreaker’s Soles, and Voidbreaker’s Staff
Because Kamalia got the Midnight 12.0 Endgame Campaign quest reward gear, Kaelyla can wear the Cloth equivalents and be twinsies with Magister Umbric even though she’s not yet level 90. She did the Eversong Woods Campaign through the end of the Tranquillien segment (helping Magister Umbric), then skipped straight to Voidstorm to do the Campaign and Sojourner quests there.
For now, I am not going to pursue the red and black version of this set obtained through the Prey feature; perhaps I might come back to it during the end-of-expansion lull.

Courtly Thalassian Apparel

Courtly Thalassian Cloth Armor with Thalassian Competitor’s Staff
This is the blue quality Tailored set from Midnight. Most of its pieces require level 90 to equip. Kaelinda dinged 90 and put it on… and then replaced the chestpiece with a higher item level reward from a World Quest within a few minutes.

There should be a Housing Achievement that awards a title such as “Steward” or “Butler” or “Maitre D'” that I could use with my character who is hanging out at my House taking care of placing out new Decor, remodeling, dyeing, and doing Neighborhood Endeavor tasks.

On second thought, the Marl costs for Decor are an order of magnitude smaller than the Marl costs for Mogs. And it’ll be quite awhile before I have the Renown for most of the Mogs, but I have the Renown for several Decor pieces I want already. So why wait? Also, somewhat to my surprise, I’d already gotten enough Undercoin from first-Delve-of-the-week Delver’s Journey progression weekly quests to get the Decor items that Naleidea Rivergleam sells, too!

Books and snacks, just what a Mage needs!

With the past month’s Endeavor focused on Midnight content, my House is already halfway to level 9! I’m looking forward to seeing what the next Endeavor will be, though it will likely slow down the progress of my House because I’ll have to choose between doing Midnight progression things and doing Endeavor progression things elsewhere in Azeroth.

Level 160

Kamalia and BTH dinged Midnight-90 last night. They’ve been around since Burning Crusade, though, so it’s really their 160th level.

We then went and did the endgame quest series leading into the Voidspire raid. We got to the end and I found myself thinking, Wait, that’s all? That’s all the build-up to going into this raid? Story Mode for Voidspire is already available, so that will probably be our next play session if there’s not a gear level we have to get to first.

Now that I’ve got that first Warband Mentoring bonus, Kaelinda will be able to get that much closer to her own Level 160 just from doing the Campaign and Local Stories in Eversong Woods (and gathering and first-time crafting, too). She’s currently working on the Local Stories near Windrunner Spire, to see if any of them lead into that dungeon itself, before going to Deatholme for the big finish of the Tranquillien chapter of the Eversong Woods Campaign.

I’ll do the introduction questline to the Prey feature to clear it from my map. After that, I’ve been dithering about if I want to engage with it just long enough to get the Mog (like I did with Horrific Visions), or just ignore it.

The second floor Guest Room in a Small Octagon room with 50 dyeable Elegant/Elven vendor pieces was just too much. I felt overwhelmed thinking about how many herbs I’d have to stockpile to do a complete new color scheme, especially if I wanted to use two colors that mill from the same herb, or a monochromatic scheme where all the dyes would mill from the same herb! Moreover, my brain was bothered by the asymmetry of having a T-Shaped room on one side of the hall and a Small Octagon room on the other. Thus, I demolished the Small Octagon room and put a T-Shaped room in its place —

— and made a slightly less opulent Guest Room with a somewhat more manageable 32 dyeable pieces.

The default colors are Basic Birch (wood, 17 pieces), Bronze (metal, 32 pieces), Kirin Tor Violet (cloth, 13 pieces), and Emerald Dreaming (jewels, 13 pieces).

I spent some of my early-in-the-expansion-and-still-precious Voidlight Marl to get a couple of Sin’dorei Storage Jars to repot the Spherical Draenic Topiaries on the front porch —

— and with that, I have almost maxed out my outdoor decorating budget. I have just enough left to put out the Midnight Herbalist’s Shop Sign on the entry to the greenhouse when one of my Herbalists gets their skill to 100.

Then I went to Amani’Zar and spent a little more of my Voidlight Marl to get a Simple Amani Basket for the Tauren room.

I ran the full length of the Murder Row dungeon again (with Followers) to get a second fancy curved table for the Library.

Questing through Voidstorm with Kamalia brought in some new Void Elf-themed items for the Ren’dorei room!

The progress dial for getting my House to level 8 was getting closer and closer and closer to full, until it got close enough that I wanted to just get there already. I began actively, instead of passively, pursuing completion of Endeavor tasks, and in not much longer, I could pay a visit to the Neighborhood General Contractor!

Changing the Guest Room from a Small Octagon, which is 4 room placement points, to a T-Shaped, which is 3 room placement points, had another benefit — when I got my House to level 8, I now had just enough room budget to replace the previous T-Shaped kitchen with a Small Square and put in the first Left Stairwell!

The floor level of the second floor is high enough to still use a vaulted ceiling in the first floor rooms. Due to the Cross-Shaped room above on the second floor, however, I only put skylights in the corners instead of doing a full skylight treatment like in the front room of the Founder’s Point House.

I wanted to keep the kitchen entryway onto the dining areas in the front room with the Arathi Bartender’s Shelves and the Pandaren Pantry with the kafa and tea cups.

To accomplish, this, I put in partition walls into the new Small Square room in the perpendicular direction to the partition walls in the Small Square room that is the (default) front room. I rebuilt the kitchen along the north wall of the new room.

I borrowed the idea for making pretty antique-style windows by putting a Pandaren Fishing Net behind them from Scaresome.

Behind the partition walls on the south side of the new kitchen, I’ve stashed some items that I want to reserve for myself but don’t quite have design places for yet within my House.

I’ve already calculated that in another month or so when I get my House to level 9, I’ll be able to not only extend the Left Stairwell up to the third floor but also build another new room using a Daylight Circle room on the first floor. So I built in a mock doorway on the connection node of the new kitchen where I’ll eventually attach the Daylight Circle room.

I tucked a miniaturized Founder’s Point Front Door into the gap between the french doors, pushed just barely behind the sky blue backdrop, to make it actually a functional exit from the house.

As soon as I had the idea for making a stairwell on the left side of the house, I knew that the proper place for the Goblin Office would be under the stairs!

I used a wide Bel’ameth doorway on the left side of the second floor hallway to mirror the one on the right side.

After some puzzling, I figured out that I’d been able to get a Bel’ameth doorway in an otherwise Silvermoon-styled wall on the right side because of how the bottom walls of the stairwell room between the second and third floors overlay the top walls of the stairwell room between the first and second floors. So I can live with having this whole wall be Bel’ameth-styled until my House gets to level 9.

Although the floor of the second floor is above the top of the first floor vaulted ceiling, it’s not much above. The Tauren Windmill that I’m using as a ceiling fan in the kitchen —

— has a tailfin that sticks up through the floor into the second floor hallway, which I have masked with this arrangement of table, rug, and Haranir runestone.

I made a conversation corner on the new second floor landing — to be moved to the third floor landing when I get my House to level 9 and can extend the staircase upward — using Elegant/Elven pieces from the town center decor vendors.

The 200% scale Grand Elven Bookcase is standing in for the Magnificent Towering Bookcase, which Ianestin hasn’t yet gotten his Inscription leveled up enough to craft. The table will also eventually get populated with the books and scrolls crafted by Midnight Inscription (and Enchanting, though I’ll have to buy those from the AH). Some of the furniture may eventually get replaced by items from Silvermoon Court/Saltheril’s Haven, when I have the reputation and the Voidlight Marl to get them. Although I’ve purchased a few items of Decor for Marl already, I will probably prioritize Mogs over Decor for future spending of that currency.

Kamalia and BTH finished the Voidstorm Campaign, and with it, the Midnight Leveling Campaign, this weekend. The Leveling Campaign is definitely tuned differently this time around; we’re only at level 88, and find ourselves left with Local Stories, World Quests, Dungeons, and Delves to get us across the finish line to Midnight-90. BTH had been picking up side quests as we’ve gone along, and was being very annoyed that his Quest Log was full and that he kept having to abandon quests from previous zones to pick up new ones as we finished up Voidstorm. I had been ignoring the side quests, so I didn’t have that problem 😛

The environmental storytelling of the color palette and landscape and vegetation shapes in Voidstorm makes me think of a hybrid of K’aresh and Azj-Kahet. I kept expecting to find abscesses of Black Blood in the areas with magenta haze and groundcover.

Finishing the Leveling Campaign also opened up a bunch of stuff for alts: the intro scenario skip, all the Local Stories in all the zones including those that hadn’t been previously showing for alts because they required completion of the zone Leveling Campaign, and World Quests.

Kaelinda will continue with her plan to complete the Eversong Woods Campaign and do all the Eversong Woods Local Stories. Kaelyla will continue with the Eversong Woods Campaign through completion of the Tranquillien segment, then go off to do all the Local Stories in Voidstorm. After that, they’ll probably go do Local Stories in Zul’Aman and Harandar until they get to level 90.

There is lots of good Skinning in Voidstorm, so Kamalia was the first to get a Profession to Midnight-100 and earn a Shop Sign. But I don’t have anywhere in the Razorwind Shores House that I want to put it, so it will stay in the House Chest and maybe one of the kids will put it out in the Founder’s Point House.

I’m finding that the new Transmogrification paradigm, with no need to update one’s Mog when one gets a new piece of gear, is inhibiting me from making new Mogs. With all the Campaign and Local Stories quest reward gear using the same models, replacing those items wouldn’t have changed how I looked even in the old Mog paradigm (as long as I was Mogged into the full quest set), but getting a dungeon or delve item would have mixed up my look and inspired me to maybe want to create a new outfit instead of going back to the full quest set. I suppose that’s not really all that great of a problem, since I have been feeling a bit burned out on Mogging recently, but that the effect exists is still worth noting.

I am sad that there are no Skyriding Race World Quests in Midnight. I’ll freely admit that Skyriding Races were my favorite source of quick and easy XP for alt-army leveling and “Do 6 World Quests” Weekly completions in Dragonflight and War Within. Was that a more widespread player behavior that the devs disliked?

After doing Arator’s Journey and the quests involving tension between citizens and the Vanguard of the Light in Silvermoon City, Kamalia and BTH are level 86 and ready to enter the Voidstorm the next time we play together.

Kaelinda just dinged 85 from doing some Tailoring. Kaelyla is 82. Both have finished the Eversong Woods Campaign segment at Fairbreeze Village and moved on to Tranquillien; neither has done much there yet.

But even more than getting a toon to level 90, right now I really want to get my House to level 8!

New Haranir Here!

Kamalia and BTH finished the Harandar Campaign last night; we are now level 85. Without any level 90 rep grind or additional questline requirement, I can now make Haranir characters.

This toon is the Haranir Mage character who joins the roster of the Minor Mages and will eventually get leveled to 50 for her Heritage Armor. To choose her name, I clicked the name randomizer until I got one that I liked with a “K” added to the front 😛

Her appearance uses all the racial features of the Haranir — bat-like ears, crazy hair, tusks, porcupine quills on the shoulders, fur, clawed feet.

The Den of Echoes storyline of the Harandar Campaign tells that the deep-past ancestors of the Haranir felt called to journey underground because they heard the song of their Goddess. Not all of those ancient people chose to undertake this journey, however, and a possible interpretation or extrapolation of the quest text could be that the Haranir ancestors who stayed behind on the surface underwent divergent evolution to become the Night Elves. So, just for fun, I created another Haranir toon with the appearance choices that minimize or remove all those special features to look as much like a proto-Night Elf as possible.

Well, that, and to be a placeholder to fill the last spot in the Campsite so that when my kids create new toons, those new toons won’t be placed by default in my Campsite.

I got all of Soothsayer Sargle’s bad fortunes, and I got the Cubist Tauren painting!

I dyed the draperies in the front room in Rachet Rust to coordinate with the leather strapping on the Rugged decor elements.

If I like it, I’ll keep it.

Questing, exploring, and this month’s Endeavor have given me lots of new pieces of decor!

Some items, I know where I want to put them and I go put them there:

Others, I put back into the House Chest for the kids to play with in the Founder’s Point House.

My Razorwind Shores neighbors are all busily playing Midnight and this month’s Endeavor is already completed! I’ve been racking up Endeavor task completions passively, too, and between that and collecting new pieces of decor, my Razorwind Shores House is already a little over halfway to level 8. But I’m getting anxious to build the left stairwell and then add some new rooms on the first floor, and it feels like it’s going to take for-ev-er to get to level 9 or level 10!
