Fade To Black

Redux

life is waiting
for us to appear
lacking strength
once again

this blanket of doom
intervenes
feeling wrapped up
in cold dysfunction

held hostage by fear
it stakes a claim
on our courage
strangles it

eyes can’t face the day
legs won’t move
a body screaming
with electricity

the weight of the world
too much
retreat the only option
back to bed

we grow accustomed to the dark

Documenting The Revolution

There was a fire in the pit of her stomach, and regardless of the label “catastrophe” bestowed upon her by social media content creators, she continued to create art that was shocking and visceral, begging people to wake up to the raw reality around them.

She never guessed how the establishment would eventually come after her over it.

“Let’s get drinks later,” Jess said to her assistant, Shawna. “I need a break. We can wallow in our misery and blame the drastic policies of our leadership for our foul moods, and say nasty things about them screwing up our world!”

SenHai Saturday #19

My apologies, but it seems that SenHai #18 was a repeat of SenHai #6! So glad I realized that I had duplicated it when I began the next post. Regardless of the repeat, I adored your new responses. :)

Here is this week’s image to get your creative juices flowing!

This image features a small child standing in front of a Christmas window display, wearing a red insulated winter jacket and a matching red hat. The scene is filled with small snowflakes falling all around.

Please create one senryu and one haiku to accompany this image prompt. Remember that a traditional haiku describes nature or a season, while a senryu focuses on human nature and emotions.

Then, provide a link in the comments below or ping back to this post on your blog.

Here is a wrap-up of last week’s prompt. I appreciate each of you for sharing your thoughts!

Inhalations

my first awakened me
daily ones sustained me
flutteringly fast ones escalated my anxiety
deep, intentional ones calmed me
shallow ones generally got me through the day
focused ones had me reflect on my shit

roughly 25,000 times a day
normal means breathing for my life
i don’t control it
it controls me
awake or asleep

the day will come
when no craving for air exists
when i’ll take my last breath
and i will be at peace

Life Imitates Life

Charlie thought he had given a rousing speech; actually, most sane people considered it babbling or some demonic rap only his followers understood. Leaning on the unfurled birch bark, leaving an imprint on my skin, it reminded me to straighten up or continue to be uncomfortable. I took a long sip from my water bottle, thoughts of wishing to be exiled swirling in my head, and my hands wringing with disgust at this scene before me. The chirping of sparrows in the brush piped up; presumably, they detected the danger in the slot of the pallet where the snake appeared.
