Come To Grips
It was time for practice. Groan! I wanted to treasure this contact with my bed, feeling infinite gratitude for the eight hours I just got. With my mind and its constant exhausted state, you would think it was always solid sleep all night through, but no. My state sure does blow a hole in that theory. I want to control my sleep better. Perhaps with some medicinal intervention?
It’s practice time now. While I’m on the floor, let’s hope for a surprise shoot while I serve up extraordinary moves that will generate stories for years. It triggers some much-needed adrenaline.
SenHai Saturday #22
Here is this week’s image to get your creative juices flowing!
Bare icy winter branches reach up towards a cloudy and eerie-looking night sky. It is mostly dark, but the clouds have hues of orange, dark blue, red, and white in front of the shining moon.
Please create one senryu and one haiku to accompany this image prompt. Remember that a traditional haiku describes nature or a season, while a senryu focuses on human nature and emotions.

Here is a wrap-up of last week’s prompt. I appreciate each of you for sharing your thoughts!

Senryu
I hold my breath too,
pretending patience looks like
grace, not hesitation.
Haiku
Green flame of stillness
the heron burns in silence,
the wind forgets words.

Insouciance
every continent is burning
millions of people raging in agony
the pendulum has swung so far wrong
politicians persecuting, punishing, and oppressing
free speech denied, freedom held hostage, joy sucked out of existence
we are currently living in a bizarro world in full color, yet under a cloak of darkness
children shrieking with every breath from mass shootings and genocides
terrorized into silence as the whistles of flying bullets encroach their personal space
many adults having to endure a government overreach like we’ve not witnessed in decades
and yet, the indifference as events unfold is crippling the human experience
the callous ones seem deaf, dumb, and blind to the warning signs all around them
no concern shown, no care for change, not one plight reaching their empathy button
until it affects them…
then it affects me…
What’s In A Name
there’s an elephant in the room
my sister and i were named after the pets
the fur babies were apparently the favorites
my parents were lazy or we weren’t sublime enough
they couldn’t even be bothered to do this small task
to gift us an original name
maybe it’s because the dog and the cat
brought them more joy than their own kids
we’ll never know now
slackers
**My sister was named after an aunt, and the dog’s name. Everyone knew her by the name of the dog. I got the cat’s name and my mother’s name, but was called by the cat’s name. Ultimately, my sister ended up dropping the aunt’s name, and I dropped my mother’s name. I guess we liked our pet names.
More Love From Freya! :)

Trapped
Redux

I
can see
the better
life shining clear,
can almost taste it.
But it’s just out of reach.
Down again, gave in again
to the temptations of my sins.
Every so often I regret it.
Shame, guilt, anger, sickness, hunger for death.
Self-medication, self-flagellation;
It’s all I seem to know anymore.
The bruises of the bottle stain
my life a shade of dingy
and gray in this bright world.
Can I escape it?
I would like to
just get out
of this
hell.

Tempted By A Demon
That slight touch, his hand sensually draped in the small of my back, the tips of his fingers grazing the top of my curves, incapacitated me. I’d forgotten how intoxicating his filmy stroke on my velvet flesh felt. I heard myself roar the word MORE in my head while strips of clothing fell away to the floor as if the smooth jazz music encircling us, making us sway deliberately, demanded it. We were back in the moment, fully immersed in a time where hearts don’t heed warnings. How long would it be before the ugly truth would reveal itself again?
