Mediating the Stories of the Muggle and Wizarding Worlds

This page links to some of the license-based and free fonts available for your Harry Potter and Wizarding World projects.

“Hocus Pocus” Front from David Occhino

I have used Hocus Pocus for the titles on this website. The font includes four variations – Regular, Magic Bolt, Title, and Title Alternative. For the typical user, the one-time fee for a non-commercial license is very reasonable.

Also, David Occhino was kind enough to produce the graphic of the castle and lake at Hogwarts, for use by Hocus Pocus licensees. I adapted his graphic for the main masthead of this blog.

Free Fonts

The Daily Prophet’s webpage on Harry Potter Resources includes free fonts. Check out the possibilities and see what might fit with your projects. At this writing (October 2010), the following free fonts are available for download:

  • ES Potter
  • Harry P
  • Hogwarts Wizard
  • Lumos
  • Magdeburg
  • Magik
  • Moonstar
  • Magical Me
  • Parseltongue

While these free fonts certainly have great potential uses, some of the main “display fonts” don’t have the typographical accuracy or extensive alternatives of David Occhino’s Hocus Pocus. Check out Occhino’s comparison chart for side-by-side details on Hocus Pocus, Harry Potter, ES Potter, and Harry P fonts.
