Downloadables ~ Links

Links to Downloadables:

Activity Kit, Book Posters, Book Covers, Bookmarks, Screensaver, Wallpapers

Downloadables come and go. It’s kind of like an online treasure hunt … if you find something once, that may be the only time you’ll see it. I check the links here for downloadables once in a while, and move things to the bottom of the page if I find they are no longer active.

Downloading should always be done with caution, from trusted websites, as I have learned from past mistakes. So, this page includes only downloadables from the publishers of the Harry Potter book and film series. A few additional sources for downloadable items can be found on the Links page.

Previously, there were many more downloads available from Scholastic – the US publisher of the Harry Potter book series. Sadly, most of those posters, bookmarks, screensavers, and wallpapers have disappeared from the web. However, there are still some downloads available from Scholastic, and there are many non-download items and activities available at the Scholastic Harry Potter site. Also see the large Harry Potter Resources and Activities section on Scholastic’s general publishing site. The downloads listed here are split pretty evenly between jpg images and PDF files.

Downloadables from Warner Brothers (Film Distributor)

Check the official Harry Potter site from Warner Brothers for downloads from the most recent movie, and links to some items/pages from prior movies in the series.

Downloadable Catalogues from “The Collector Zone”

The Collector Zone is an online store based in the UK. Their website contains downloadable catalogues that show a number of Harry Potter toys, action figures, games, and other products. (There are many links to Harry Potter merchandise on the home page, along with a distractingly large number of other links and images. If you have trouble finding the link to the catalogue section, try the bottom left-hand corner of the website. That is where the link was when I checked it in late 2010 and early 2011.)  I would show images of the covers from some of their catalogues that feature major sections on Harry Potter items, however, that is against their copyright policy. So, please check out The Collector Zone and download their catalogues for yourself. For more details on The Collector Zone, see the Toys, Trading Cards, and Trivia page.

Downloadables Archive ~ Links No Longer Active

There have been some great downloadables over the years, but unfortunately some good things don’t last forever. This section is so you can at least know what some of those downloads were like.

Inactive Downloadables from Scholastic

Scholastic had a number of downloadables for which the links were active up til sometime in 2009 or 2010. They included:

A set of posters, one for each book, featuring the cover art and other illustrations by Mary GrandPré. These posters – or ones very similar – were also officially published and available as promos for the US edition book releases. So, they sometimes show up on eBay. What made these most distinctive  was their geometric look. There are strong lines dividing the space into  a central wedge, surrounded by about eight irregular-shaped four-sided figures that creates a sort of stained glass window effect. The book cover art shows up in the top center wedge of the poster, just below the title of the book. It is then counterbalanced by about three or four scenes from the book on the left and the same on the right, and two scenes underneath.

A single poster featuring the changing faces of Harry Potter from the first through seventh books. I have not seen a published version of this on eBay or online poster stores. It uses a similar geometric design that gives the effect of a stained glass window.

A set of seven bookmarks to promote Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. These bookmarks are very dark in color, each with a question printed in white. (Such as, “Who will live? Who will die?” and “Where are the horcruxes?”) I have seen published versions of these occasionally on eBay.

A set of seven wallpapers of alternating colored diamond patterns. The wallpapers have a different color combination for each book – such as warm yellow and bright red for Deathly Hallows – and each diamond embossed with a pattern. I have not seen published versions of these all by themselves. However, bits and pieces of these show up regularly. For instance, the diamond patterns appear on the Quidditch towers, and as the inside cover pages of some paperback editions of the Harry Potter books. So, they are part of a “corporate design” used in many different Harry Potter elements and items.

A poster featuring a composite of characters and scenes from all seven Harry Potter book covers. This composite takes up about 75% of the poster, and the very bottom quarter gives a side view of each of the seven books in the Harry Potter series, plus a view of Tales of Beedle the Bard. I think I’ve seen similar published posters used for book release promotions.
