Welcome to The Hunger Games Notes!

The more I read The Hunger Games books and watch the film adaptations, the more deeply I see that Suzanne Collins understands power dynamics, how trauma happens, forms of resistance against evil, and the range of ways people respond to surviving abuse and undergoing recovery. She offers us a wealth of characters, events, and themes that help us identify different kinds of systemic abuse and oppression. She also gives us examples to consider ways we can intervene in systems of abuse when needed, and prevent them when possible.

Many of the items I’ve collected and show images of on this website don’t seem to have much to do with that directly. But, I believe they do help us grasp the overall context of a dystopian society, sharply divided between those who have and those who don’t but who make that possible. This helps comprehend the kind of world in which The Hunger Games could occur.

In launching this site, I hope you’ll find something of interest that leads you deeper into understanding authoritarian cultures of control, and finding ways to resist.

NOTE: As with most of my media case study sites, I have launched when the structure is close enough to what I think it should be, and I have enough details and images for it to be worthwhile for those who are interested in the subject matter. I will complete the site as time allows. As posting progresses, my page titles may change but the links will likely remain the same.
