NOTES

Measurements. I have rounded off measurements on vinyl banners to the nearest quarter inch. That’s because many such large display banners typically have seaming that folds back and stitches the vinyl to finish the edges. So, there’s a degree of irregularity in the “squaring off” of the shape and the measurements.

Double-sided. A single-sided banner has the image on one side, and usually either all white or black on the back. A double-sided banner shows the same image on both front and back.

THE HUNGER GAMES (2012)

The Hunger Games Theatrical Release

This banner is made of medium-heavy vinyl. It promoted the first movie in The Hunger Games series from author Suzanne Collins, and features the characters Rue, Cato, Katniss, Peeta, and Gale.

There are five panels that are 35 inches by 66 inches each (about 3 feet wide x 5.5 feet tall). It’s got an unusual design in that the panels are not separate, but are attached at the top (though not at the bottom) to make one continuous mega-banner that is 15 feet wide. There is a 1-inch gap between each set of panels.

The top connector loop is about 1 inch wide and is constructed so dowels can be inserted all the way across. Each panel also has its own loop at the bottom for a dowel or 1-inch-wide yard stick.

The sturdy cardboard shipping box plus banner weighed about 10 pounds.

The Hunger Games DVD Release (Chevron)

This is a double-sided banner with an angled chevron shape, made of medium-heavy vinyl. It was designed with grommets on the upper edge and black ropes were shipped with the banner to sales outlets. (See display instructions below.) Size: 36″ high at the tallest point in the center x 94″ wide.

The Hunger Games DVD Release (Rectangular)

This is a single-sided rectangular banner, made of medium-heavy vinyl, with grommets on the top, bottom, and corners for hanging. Size: 48″ high x 94″ wide.

CATCHING FIRE (2013)

Theatrical Release (Katniss Everdeen)

ACTUAL BANNER IMAGES TO BE ADDED. This promotional postcard for the soundtrack shows the same images and color schemes used on the banner.

The main display banner for the theatrical release of Catching Fire is double-sided and features three panels printed on medium-heavy vinyl. The two end panels (each approximately 4′ x 6′) include the red Mockingjay image, only taking up the entire panel, with Cinna’s words overprinted in white capital letters: “Remember Girl on Fire I’m Still Betting On You.” The center panel features Katniss Everdeen with the on-fire Mockingjay symbol, film title, and release date (November 22) in the bottom third of the banner.

The panels were connected at the top and had slots for dowels on both top and bottom of the panels. It was common for a while on eBay to see auctions where the panels had been separated and auctioned individually.

Single-sided banner on light-weight vinyl, with cut/trimmed (not seamed) sides. Reverse side is black. Size: 29.25″ wide x 46.75″ tall.

There was a very similar theatrical release banner that used the same artwork and color scheme. It had an additional slogan at the top with Haymitch Abernathy’s words, “Remember who the enemy is.” The theatrical release date of November 22 replaces the “Thursday night 3.6.14” notice.
