Books
This page focuses on links for the UK and North American publishers, plus release dates for the various book editions, and chapter titles in the Harry Potter series. For books about the Harry Potter series, see the page on Resource Materials. For information about how the books were promoted, see Promotional Materials 1: Books & Audiobooks.
Book Publishing Companies
Bloomsbury (UK)
Bloomsbury (UK publisher) – “Seven Books, One Story.” [I particularly like that slogan, because, for me, it captures the essence of how multiple episodes add up to an epic.] The newest editions of Harry Potter feature cover illustrations by Clare Melinsky, “a renowned linocut artist, who is based in Scotland.” Other Bloomsbury links of interest:
- Archived “image guide” to all of the Bloomsbury editions available.
- An A-to-Z glossary for Harry Potter terms, people, and places.
- On Bloomsbury’s Fun Stuff page you’ll find various downloads (e.g., bookmarks, posters) and games to play online.
Scholastic (US)
Scholastic (US publisher). For intriguing measurements of language/reading level for teaching each book in the series and related Harry Potter books (e.g., The Tales of Beedle the Bard; Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them), see Scholastic’s Bookwizard site. Click on the link for each book’s page to get details on the:
- Interest Level
- Grade Level Equivalent
- Lexile® Measure
- Guided Reading
- These pages for educators also give descriptions of Genre/Theme, Topics, and (sometimes) Sensitivity Issues.
Also, check out the Scholastic version of a Harry Potter Glossary. The Bloombury glossary is generally a bit more detailed on words and spells, creatures and characters, and such like, but the Scholastic seems to have more words.
Raincoast (Canada)
Raincoast has published Canadian editions of the Harry Potter books; they use the British version, and these cannot be sold in the US due to territorial restrictions. Also, check out the complete Raincoast catalog for other COOL editions they have available – including Harry Potter and thePhilosopher’s Stone in Ancient Greek, Irish, Latin, and Welsh; and Harry Potter and theChamber of Secrets in Latin. (My classical Greek is beyond rusty, but one never knows …)
National Braille Press (US)
National Braille Press has produced Braille editions of the seven Harry Potter books, plus The Tales of Beedle the Bard. See the main index for a listing and links of their Harry Potter books. And check out these NBP news archive links for information on the processes and partnerships used to cover the production of these books for people who use Braille for reading:

International Languages
Wikipedia has a helpful page called Harry Potter in Translation that lists the international languages into which one or more Harry Potter books have been translated and published. Not all editions have links to the publishers, though the name of the publisher is listed. So, I thought I would at least give links for publishers of the French and Spanish editions and their Harry Potter webpages:
- French – Gaillimard Jeunesse
- Spanish – Salamandra
