Elevating the patient voice worldwide

At the Global Allergy and Airwayss Patient Platform (GAAPP), advocacy means ensuring that the voices of people living with allergy, asthma, COPD, and other airways and atopic diseases are heard where decisions are made.

We work at the global, regional, and national levels to influence policy, shape healthcare systems, and remove barriers to care. Our goal is simple: better outcomes and better quality of life for people living with chronic respiratory and allergic conditions, no matter where they live.

Stronger voices create stronger impact.
GAAPP-led coalitions connect patient groups, experts, and partners to advocate for shared priorities in allergy and airways health.

Our Advocacy Focus Areas

We advocate for health policies that reflect the real needs and lived experiences of people living with allergies, allergic skin conditions, asthma, COPD, and other airways diseases, as well as their caregivers. This includes access to timely and accurate diagnosis, essential medicines, and appropriate long-term care.

GAAPP works to reduce disparities in access to prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management for allergic and airways diseases, particularly in low- and middle-income countries and underserved communities.

We promote coordinated, person-centered models of care that integrate allergy, allergic skin conditions, and airways diseases into broader noncommunicable disease strategies and primary care systems.

Healthy environments are essential for preventing and managing allergic and airways diseases. We support policies that reduce air pollution, limit environmental triggers, and address climate and occupational exposures that impact patient health.

We work to ensure that patients across allergy, skin, and airways disease communities are meaningfully involved in research, guideline development, and health system planning, so outcomes reflect what matters most to those living with these conditions.

How We Advocate

GAAPP engages with international institutions, governments, and public health bodies to elevate allergy and airways diseases within global health agendas.

We convene and support multi-stakeholder coalitions that align patient organizations, clinicians, researchers, and partners around shared advocacy goals.

Through coordinated campaigns and global awareness initiatives, we raise visibility of unmet needs and drive action among policymakers and the public.

We equip patient organizations with practical resources, toolkits, and training to strengthen advocacy efforts at the local, national, and regional levels.

Advocacy in Action

GAAPP’s advocacy work includes supporting global and regional initiatives that advance lung and airways health, contributing patient perspectives to policy discussions, and coordinating campaigns such as Speak Up for COPD, RSV Alliance, and other condition-specific advocacy efforts.

Our work aligns with major global health milestones, including WHO and UN commitments on noncommunicable diseases, integrated care, and environmental health.
