Walz: ‘I Learned How to Govern From the Chinese’

I’m picking out my high point of the night’s debate between Walz and Vance. Hand’s down it had to be Walz.

Considering the moderators, I think JD did the best he could and all and all got the job done for our side. I would have preferred more attacks on Harris, but what can you do when the deck is stacked against you with the moderators. So here is my “Golden Moment.” Worth the time spent watching the whole debacle of Walz.

Congress Border Bill Deal Failed Over a ‘Dirty Dozen’ Reasons – A Refresher

No doubt tonight during the Vice Presidential debate, the bromide about the border and Trump behind the border bill not passing will be resurrected. The well known reason used often by GOP is the allowance of at least 5000 illegals to cross before anything happens to stop it. There never is discussed the GOP House Bill HR 1 that previously did pass regarding immigration.

But that is not the half of it nor the worst of it.  A short hand list was out on “X”

Why the Senate Border Deal FAILED:

1–Codify Catch/Release

2–Let in 1.8M Illegals

3–Fund Sanctuary Cities

4–Fund NGOs Moving Illegals

5–Lawyers to Illegals

6–Work Permits to Illegals

7–Nothing to Deport Illegals

8–No Immediate Wall Funds

9–Weak Asylum Screening

10–$60B to Ukraine

Donalds gave a refresher at a hearing last week. He covers the border bill topic in the first minute or so before going on to other things.

This section alone in the bill, letting Mayorkas decide what evidence would be sufficient to approve asylum requests and remove judicial oversight from asylum claims, putting illegal immigrants on a fast track to citizenship, is sufficient reason to nuke that bill into orbit.

Mike Lee put together “The dirty dozen” reasons the bill didn’t pass with a much better analysis.

Senator Lee Releases “Dirty Dozen” Disasters in So-Called “Border Deal”

Here is the link to the list.

The Epoch Times points out a few of the flaws as well:

Mr. Lee said the bill contained a “dirty dozen” fatal flaws. The most serious “codifies catch-and-release,” the process whereby an illegal immigrant is detained and interviewed by U.S. immigration officials, given a date to appear in immigration court, and then released into the country.

Former President Donald Trump effectively ended catch-and-release when he implemented the Remain in Mexico program, requiring illegal immigrants to wait in Mexico until their immigration cases had been adjudicated. President Biden halted the program the day he took office in 2021.

Pointing to the bill’s Section 235B, Mr. Lee explained that catch-and-release would be codified because the bill gives the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) “unchecked authority to release an alien into the United States under ineffective ‘alternatives to detention.’”

The second flaw highlighted by Mr. Lee involves the authority of the Secretary of Homeland Security and the president.

“The Secretary of Homeland Security is only required to shut down the border if there are 5,000 average illegal crossings over a consecutive seven-day period or 8,500 in a single day,” Mr. Lee said.

A caveat to that is that the president can “reopen the border any time it is in the ‘national interest to temporarily suspend the border emergency authority’ for up to 45 days.”

Further, the bill “creates a dangerous expansion of parole by saying it can now be granted for anyone the DHS secretary determines has an ‘urgent humanitarian reason,’” Mr. Lee said. The bill doesn’t require the DHS secretary or president to deport anyone.

The bill allows illegal immigrants to be given work permits as soon as they pass an initial screening by immigration authorities.

The number of available green cards is increased by 50,000 annually under the new bill.

The bill also includes a budgeting gimmick whereby $650 million of the funding for continuing to build the border wall begun by President Trump is rescinded, then restored in 2028. Not a single foot of new wall would be built as a result.

The Debate: Harris Gears Up for U.S/ Ukraine War- The ‘October Surprise’ is Underway

The sleeper topic during the debate. Moscow just now was attacked by Ukraine/U.S. drones. The only thing Harris was willing to talk about was her position on Ukraine and she was “perfectly clear” about her support. That was odd. The largest drone attack ever against Moscow just happened. Blinken is in Ukraine.

It was about the only issue that we had a semblance of an idea of where she stands on anything and she certainly was articulate. First a refresher of what she did say in the debate before we dig in. Cue it up to the 3 minute time stamp to pick up mostly her take. Earlier was Trump’s speaking.

We can’t say she didn’t take the time to memorize the lines. A fervent plea for war and more war.

The buffoons that encouraged all of this Ukraine nonsense. This as the Russians were massing at the border.

Now, the line in the sand is drawn with breaking news yesterday. Ukraine has already been using long-range drone attacks deep inside Russia and as far as Moscow all year. Hitting oil refineries, one in Samara, 560 miles from Ukraine as well as power plants. Now we should trust Zelensky with long range missiles?

Breaking News

CNN

Ukraine strikes Moscow in biggest drone attack to date

Residents said they awoke to blasts and fire.

“I looked at the window and saw a ball of fire,” Alexander Li, a resident of the district told Reuters. “The window got blown out by the shockwave.”

Georgy, a resident who declined to give his surname, said he heard a drone buzzing outside his building in the early hours.

Isn’t it interesting this all goes down while we are focused on the debate?

Breaking news: British David Lammy says West ‘listening carefully’ to Ukraine over long range missile needs. Foreign Secretary David Lammy and his US counterpart Antony Blinken are on a joint visit to the Ukrainian capital to show support for Kyiv.

Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelensky has repeatedly pushed for permission to use Western missiles to strike at targets within Vladimir Putin’s Russia, and US President Joe Biden and Sir Keir Starmer are set to discuss the issue in Washington tomorrow. Speaking to reporters in the Ukrainian capital, Mr Lammy said he and his US counterpart Mr Blinken were to “listen to Ukraine, to speak to President Zelensky, to hear and understand the strategy”.

Putin has his own opinion as how this whole thing will/might play out. As Trump said last night, don’t forget, Russia has “the big one.” American Lt Col. C. Davis gives an excellent analysis of why the use of these weapons is a very bad idea.

Good luck America. So Biden is going to start the October surprise?

There has been a steady drumbeat for all out war especially beginning in 2024. Zelensky cannot be trusted. Here is a portion of a couple of earlier posts.

Ukraine Defies U.S. Order to Stop Attacking Russian Oil Refineries

“Nobody after two years of large-scale war can dictate conditions for waging this war in Ukraine.” So says Zelensky’s aid, Mykhailo Podolyak.

The United States has urged Ukraine to stop attacking Russia’s oil refineries, fearing a surge in global oil prices and Russian retaliation. Washington issued warnings to senior officials at Ukraine’s state security service, the SBU, and its military intelligence directorate, known as the GUR, as per the Financial Times. Oil has risen 12 percent since March 12, 2024.

Mar 25, 2024

Ukraine has knocked another Russian oil refinery out of commission along with one of the country’s largest power plants in another long-range drone attack. Video from the Kuybyshevsky oil refinery in Samara, 560 miles from Ukraine, shows drones circling overhead and slamming down into the refinery, causing large fires to break out.

The drones, which have a distinctive V-shaped tail fin are the same ones used to target the Ryazan oil refinery a fortnight ago, blowing up the distillation towers and putting the facility out of action long-term.

Then we have:

War Cry from Macron Over Ukraine – The Coming Conflict

All of a sudden Europe is concerned about Russia and especially Ukraine. The nervous nellies are thinking that their nemesis Trump might just win the election this fall thus the U.S. might not be as willing to step up and bail them out like last century. Just in case Putin decides to go big or go home… Putin threatened Nukes. It doesn’t hurt also, that Congress is making it clear that the U.S. is not the endless piggy bank and we are getting cranky about the whole thing.

It doesn’t hurt that Europe’s farmers are not a bit happy in having their farm confiscated or at the least restrictions that insure their bankruptcy. Attention elsewhere never hurts.

They sure laughed last time around with Trump and his advancing theory that Europe might just be on their own… because as he says, they should be.

At the least, the U.S. not contribute the lion share of their defense.

The Debate? Fido the dog and Babies are NOT safe

My simple offering of correcting the moderator of last night’s debate. Not a debate, rather ambush by everyone. Disappointment overall of the debate. At some point Harris will have to get through an interview. So Fido is still on the ropes. Babies as well.

Gateway Pundit:

The Federalist obtained audio of a 911 call from a local resident reporting a group of Haitians carrying geese.

More than 20,000 Haitians are now living in Springfield, Ohio and the residents are fed up.

Springfield has a population of about 60,000 people and Haitians now make up 25% of the population.

Picture is from Reddit. I am sure he picked it up from the local grocery store

A freaked out local called 911 after he saw a group of Haitians carrying geese.

“I’m sitting here, I’m riding on the trail, I’m going to my orientation for my job today, and I see a group of Haitian people, there was about four of ’em, they all had geese in their hand,” the unidentified caller told the dispatcher.

Harris Flubs and Flip Flops in Interview

It is hard to pass by the opportunity to take a swipe at the infamous faux interview of Harris by CNN. For those of us who have been following her gaffes and folly, it was no big surprise. Carving out the best 18 minutes of the interview, leaving the worst of the nonsense on the cutting room floor, didn’t save her. Nor the often multiple choice answers offered her.

Of course those of us in Pennsylvania appreciate her “fracking position.” Thus one of the high points for myself. Here first is her position back in the day.

Let’s see if we can follow the story line. Thanks goes to the interviewer for prompting Harris to recall her memorized line:

I think Jesse did a good job of summing up the spectacle. Even down to the strange furniture set up.

Fox News host Jesse Watters calls out the vice president for flip-flopping on issues on ‘Jesse Watters Primetime.’

Any one else recall the days of the “Flip Flops” that were brought to Kerry’s Town Halls? Everyone chanting Flip Flops holding them up in the air? How about this ad?

Here’s what Kamala Harris is saying about Joe Biden’s debate performance

“A strong finish” Says VP Harris. The only thing left is how to do the switcheroo. OK get out your chips. Who is it going to be? And what do they do about Harris?

My bet is that Hillary will somehow breech. Strange isn’t it that Assange, Hillary’s nemesis, was released just this week. There are conflicting reports about the terms of his release. Some say he agreed to no reveal anything further and to remove what he has.

Michelle Obama? They claim no way no how……

I have to say, CNN did a good job and I can’t complain. It was to Trump’s benefit that the mic was turned off unless it was his turn.

Biden Agrees to Debate – So What is in the ‘Magic Elixir’ that Brings Him Back to Live?

There’s no evidence to suggest Biden is actually on any drugs, legal or otherwise. But purely hypothetically: Would Adderall really do what Giuliani (and by implication, Trump) claims? What kind of miracle drugs does Trump think Biden would need here?

This was a story Slate put out last time around in 2020. At the time Trump had suggested that Biden should be required to take a drug test. Here tis:

Hypothetically, Would Adderall Turn Joe Biden Into a Debate Whiz?

A pharmacist on President Trump’s bizarre theory.

Heather Schwedel: How would a drug like Adderall affect someone’s debate performances?

Michael T. Swanoski: Adderall is a stimulant that’s often prescribed for attention deficit disorder. So Adderall potentially could increase your attentiveness if you’re feeling drowsy or if you’re fatigued. But it doesn’t increase cognition per se. It doesn’t improve thinking, but it provides a boost similar to what you’d get from a cup of coffee—a little more pronounced, but not increasing cognition in any way. It wouldn’t have an effect on your acetylcholine, which is the chemical that’s connected with clear thoughts, thinking through a difficult task, and high-level thinking.

What other kind of drugs would take a person from sleepy to wide awake, so to speak?

There’s been a push in marketing nutritional supplements that are touted for improving brain health or memory. They make vague claims of brain enhancer or memory enhancer without really getting too specific, because they’re not allowed to make claims that they can’t back up. But there’ve certainly been cases of students using stimulants to help, maybe if they’ve got a big exam, to make them more alert potentially. People are purchasing these products with the hope that they’ll help them with giving them a competitive edge, perhaps in their job or whatever they need to think about.

The there is that white powder that mysteriously shows up at the White House from time to time.

Back to the story at hand. The debates”

“Donald Trump lost two debates to me in 2020,” Biden said before the first cut. “And since then, he hasn’t shown up for a debate.”

“Now he’s acting like he wants to debate me again,” he said before the third cut. “Well make my day, pal … I’ll even debate you twice. So let’s pick the dates, Donald. I hear you’re free on Wednesdays.”

Speculation begins.

So in the end, Biden concedes to Trump and will do a couple debates. The only question is why? And why June. Is it a last ditch stand to see if he can get through one and if not dump him at the convention?

One thing is for sure, CNN will have given him the questions long before the night of the debate.

Here is Biden taking a victory lap as the big man on campus.

Michael Tyler, the campaign communications director, said the president did “not mince words.”

Biden-Harris Campaign Communications Director Michael Tyler joins Morning Joe to discuss the president laying out terms for presidential debates.

“I mean listen, the president himself did not mince words, right? He said that he beat Donald Trump twice in 2020. Donald Trump hasn’t debated since, the president is happy to debate. He’s happy to do it twice,”

Tyler told “Morning Joe” Wednesday. “He thinks we should do it sooner rather than later so the American people can see the stark choice that’s in front of them in this election. We should do it in June after Donald Trump’s criminal trial is likely to conclude and the president returns from the G-7 Summit and we should have a second debate in September way ahead of when early voting begins again so the Americans people can hear from both candidates before they go cast their ballots.”

Well we are off. Good Luck. The best of the swamp.

McDaniel, GOP Crumble After Threatening to Disqualify Candidates Over Christian Event

GOP Rona McDaniel makes a fool of herself one more time. Threatening to withdraw funding for any Presidential candidate who attends a conservative forum  Thats right, tick off your conservative base.

As if the GOP can’t shoot themselves anymore times in the foot, let’s try this one on a power trip:

Five Republican presidential candidates were invited to take part in a “Thanksgiving Family Forum” hosted by The Family Leader, set to take place on Friday in Iowa, according to CNN. Bob Vander Plaats, president and CEO of The Family Leader, is an important Christian figure in conservative politics.

The RNC sent the candidates a letter warning them not to participate.

“It has come to the attention of the RNC Counsel’s Office that several Republican presidential candidates have been invited to participate in an open-press event in Iowa in November at which they would ‘gather around the table to have a moderated, friendly, and open discussion about the issues,’” the Oct. 28 letter obtained by Real Clear Politics said.

“In other words, a debate.”

In order to qualify for the RNC debates, the candidates had to sign a pledge vowing not to participate in any others.

“Accordingly, please be advised that any Republican presidential candidate who participates in this or other similar events will be deemed to have violated this pledge and will be disqualified from taking part in any future RNC-sanctioned presidential primary debates,” the letter warned.

Sounds like a pointless power trip that would have snubbed evangelical voters.

Thankfully, Ramaswamy, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott had better sense than to ignore this important demographic. They all agreed to attend the event despite the RNC’s warning, according to CNN.

Perhaps realizing that the candidates hold all the cards, the RNC caved.

H/T: Gateway Pundit

Has anyone been following the attacks by Rona who is trying to justify her existence as chair of the GOP? She has been making her rounds on the talkies.

Well, its always good to attack candidates apparently.

WASHINGTON – Republican National Committee chair Ronna McDaniel hit back at 2024 GOP candidate Vivek Ramaswamy for criticizing her over the party’s string of lackluster election results, saying the biotech entrepreneur is simply “looking for headlines.”

“Last I checked, I wasn’t running for president,” McDaniel said Sunday in an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union.” “He’s at 4%, he’s looking for headlines.”

Comments made:

“What does Rona do?! She runs to CNN…that tells me everything I need to know about this useless Rino.”

“Ronna, people are still waiting for your answer… your response is …crickets… What have you done or are you doing for your party? Better yet, exactly what is your party?”

Painful to watch. Laura Ingraham socks it to her.

Ramaswamy took a shot at McDaniel and called on her to resign at the third Republican presidential debate Wednesday, blaming her for failing to bring more voters into the fold and calling the GOP a “party of losers.”

“Since Ronna McDaniel took over as chairwoman of the RNC in 2017, we have lost 2018, 2020, 2022 – no red wave … We got trounced last night in 2023. And I think that we have to have accountability in our party,” Ramaswamy said, noting the GOP’s latest losses in this year’s off-year elections.

Here in my little corner of the world, I checked on last week’s election returns of mail-in ballots. The GOP was about one third of the number returned by the Dems. So if mail-in ballots are the solution we sure aren’t getting there.

The best of the swamp.

Vivek the Fraudster Declared the Winner in GOP Debate.

No real surprise as the darling of the media. The Tweets (x) were alive with the sound of Vivek’s canned bromides of what a showman would say selling himself.

I did watch the debate. Well, somebody had to do it. Universal acclaim from the media. What could be more contrived than this from MSNBC.

“Brian Tyler Cohen shares his thoughts the winners and losers and liars of the Republican presidential debate, focusing on Ron DeSantis and Vivek Ramaswamy.” Stand as much of it as you can.

For those stopping by for the first time on this particular screed, I give you this from yesterday’s post. Wander over for more.

Vivek Ramaswamy: One Smooth Operator, Media Darling.

Big Pharma Vivek Ramaswamy: Pfizer Deal, Soros & More. The New MAGA Darling?

What concern me? Many states have open primaries. One steps up and declares the party they wish to participate in. Since at this point there will only be Joe, what is to stop the Dems from lining up for this fine fellow? Just a thought. The Dems love mischief.

Here we go: Smooth Operator

The best of the swamp.

Oz – Fetterman Debate – The Ultimate Train Wreck

A train wreck is far too kind for those who took the time and could bear the suffering of Fetterman as he continued to decline throughout the debate.

There are those who wonder why the Fetterman Oz contest should be of interest to those who live outside of Pennsylvania. If someone as incompetent as Fetterman can be elected then we are indeed doomed. Sadly 635,000 mail-in ballots have already been turned in. Another reason to cut out weeks of early voting.

Fracking

There have been no ads in my TV market covering the fracking issue. Pennsylvania is second only to Texas in Natural Gas drilling. Tens of thousands of jobs are involved. Finally we get the topic out in the light. For most of rural America its a big deal. A really big deal.

This is how the debate started out and it didn’t get any better.

You know you have lost when even CNN cannot muster a positive review of the spectacle. Fetterman and his family and friends should be ashamed of what they have supported in this candidacy.

Frankly I found it enjoyable after all those attacks on the NBC gal Dasha Burns who did the Fetterman interview, and was honest to state the obvious that she wasn’t sure he understood the preinterview back and forth conversation. Her redemption is sweet revenge.

CNN analysts break down Fetterman’s performance in debate

“Following the only debate in the key Pennsylvania Senate race, CNN’s panel of analysts breaks down Democratic candidate John Fetterman’s performance, after a stroke in May left him with lasting complications.”
