- LA City Council just voted to oppose the biggest pro-housing bill of the past 5 years #SB79 in a shocking display of NIMBYism. Some votes I expected but I can’t believe “progressive” @YsabelJuradoLA carried water for MAGA NIMBYs and opposed housing in wealthy areas. Shame.
- Fascinating to see the stark rural/urban and north/south divide on #SB79, the biggest housing bill of the year. Let’s dive into the details, and see how your State Senator voted. 👇
- Being anti-market rate housing is not a serious position if you’re interested in solving the housing crisis.
- Happy to announce I am the new Transportation and Public Works Commissioner for the City of Santa Cruz! Looking forward to advocating for the needs of students, who comprise 55% of Metro bus riders.
- State housing law gets the goods. Yes, it’s hard to believe it but this is a new building proposed in SANTA CRUZ. SB 330 application 😎 Shoutout Workbench for this awesome project that will bring much needed housing to the area.
- Replying to @zennonucLook at the difference between NorCal and SoCal. In the Bay, out of the 11 Senators repping urban areas, 8 voted yes. In LA County, out of 13 Senators only 4 voted yes. The LA delegation is killing housing bills.
- “progressives” who grandstand about needing more “community involvement” on projects are just asking for death by a thousand public comments without actually saying it
- I JUST SHOOK NEWSOM’S HAND AT THE BIDEN/NEWSOM RALLY AND ASKED HIM ABOUT HIGH SPEED RAIL. HE SAID HE TALKED TO BIDEN ABOUT IT ON THE PLANE. #CAHSR CONFIRMED INFRASTRUCTURE BILL???
- Replying to @zennonucAlso of note, rural reps in the Central Valley and elsewhere, where its provisions hardly applied, overwhelmingly voted for the bill. Urban reps fought against their future constituents.
- Aesthetic “environmentalist” and former chair of @envirovoters, @AsmRickZbur, announces he is opposed to #SB79 because he wants to see radical action on climate change, so long as that isn’t building apartments next to transit.
- If @GavinNewsom can pull off the CEQA reform bills tied to the budget I will happily eat my shorts and retract every mean thing I’ve ever said about his housing policy
- Replying to @zennonucAnd much credit to the DSA-endorsed candidates who opposed this motion! Thank you @nithyavraman @EunissesH and a pleasant surprise coming from @CD13LosAngeles who had previously opposed LA’s big upzoning program applying in single family areas. Progress is possible! The other three DSA-endorsed council members — Hernandez, Raman, and Soto-Martinez — voted no (which is the pro-YIMBY vote). The more moderate council members had a much higher ratio of yes:no. Good thing for people to keep in mind.
- Extremely proud to announce the Student Housing Crisis Act of 2023 #AB1630 and the formation of the #StudentHOMESCoalition today in Sacramento! With this new legislation, we can truly make a significant dent in lack of affordable homes for students.
