Worried about coronavirus in LA? Me too.
Now imagine you live on the street with 5,000 other people in 50 square blocks, and you all share about ten bathrooms.
Or in a park where bathrooms are locked for twelve hours a day.
That’s the reality we’ve created for so many here.
I’m a little shocked that there hasn’t been more coverage of the fact that the second largest city in America just passed universal just cause protections for all tenants yesterday... something that New York state tried and failed to pass earlier this year!
To the residents of CD4, our brilliant, kind, and inspiring campaign team, our thousands of tireless volunteers, and everyone who shared their ideas for how we can build the LA we deserve:
It’s now official. Thanks to your support, we’re going to City Hall.
LA hasn’t moved urgently on coronavirus -- even continuing to hold large events like the LA Marathon because "cases have been limited here."
The idea isn't to wait until cases and deaths increase. It's to PREVENT that.
We need decisive action. Here's what we could do:
Something I learned recently: LAPD gets sued for police misconduct regularly, but misconduct settlements aren't paid out of LAPD’s budget.
They’re paid out from the city's general fund -- which means they eat into money for other services.
Racist, homophobic, and deeply cruel statements like these are disqualifying for elected office in LA. The people who made them should resign. If they don’t, I’ll vote to remove them from Council leadership at the first opportunity.
Sending all my love to Mike and his family.
Bernie Sanders has endorsed us in our LA City Council race. I can't tell you how much that means to me.
He was the person who showed me the possibilities of politics. He proved that, just by leading with values, we can build lasting movements for change.
Thank you, Bernie.
Big milestone for our campaign: our opponent has started running deceitful attack ads against us!
Let's talk about one of these ads: why it's wrong, how our donation policy works, and why we think saying no to corporate money is so important in LA.
LA's crushing heat and toxic air are the product of our climate crisis. Both will get worse if we don't take major action.
Instead, every councilmember but one just voted to relax emissions standards at the Port of LA: soon to become our biggest polluter.
Today, protesters outside the Mayor’s residence were struck with batons. An elected member of the Wilshire Center-Ktown NC was arrested.
There is no acceptable justification for LAPD to use force against Angelenos who are peacefully exercising their right to free speech.
LAPD responds to 13th straight day of #blockgarcetti protests outside of mayor’s residence.
Protesters are fighting a Garcetti appointment to a Biden cabinet bc of his handling of issues like homelessness, transportation.
LA is home to the largest population of Armenian people in the world outside of Armenia. Today, many are rightfully terrified by violent aggression from Azerbaijan and Turkey in the region of Artsakh.
Here's what's happening, and why we stand with Armenians. (thread)
I'm going to share one of the weirdest open secrets in California politics.
Very soon, you're about to get lots of mail from groups with names like "California Democrats League" and "Environmental Voters" with a slate of endorsements.
They're not what they seem. (thread)
