Balaji is on to something here. If the Internet could create something as ambitious as Wikipedia, surely it should be possible to build a 'truth layer' for the web. Open Standards > Editorial Control P.S. FB & Twitter would throw infinite money at this if it worked.
It shouldn’t be tech companies per se getting into fact checking. It should be open source technology. Free, universally available code and data for epistemology. Take a piece of text, parse it, extract assertions, compare to explicitly specified knowledge graphs and oracles.

With @DavidChiu becoming San Francisco City Attorney, there's a very important race underway for his California State Assembly seat. My strong personal view is that @bilalmahmood is the right leader for this job — not @MattHaneySF. Why? Their differences on housing. 🧵

My friend @asuth and I wrote an OpEd for our tech-leader friends. Why? With all of the cacophony — Miami, Chesa/BoE recall, homelessness, housing — the most important part of the story was being ignored. How are we actually going to fix SF? 🧵 sfstandard.com/perspectives/t…

I underestimated the importance of putting highly visible points on the board with SB9. You can feel the momentum on housing policy in CA has now changed. *So proud* of @hanlonbt @melissabreach @louismirante @mateosfo @aceckhouse @konstantinhatch and the whole @cayimby team.

It is unclear why @LorenaSGonzalez silently killed AB550 today in California Assembly Appropriations Committee. It is a commonsense traffic safety bill that would have saved *hundreds* of lives a year. Also, @CaliforniaWalks is it true that you opposed AB550?
Speed safety technology saves lives and it’s deeply disappointing that this common-sense bill didn’t make it through the Assembly. Thank you @DavidChiu for your continuing to push this forward.

Startups need less developers and more writers. It's obvious when you are on a @Caterina designed website (Flickr, Hunch) and why it works.

In a national politics bereft of leadership in this country, I want to share my deep appreciation for Senator @Scott_Wiener. He's truly the real deal: a true believer, high integrity, comfortable deep in the weeds of policy, ambitious, and effective.

Covid Act Now built a new product. See how 50 states, 1,700+ counties are tracking against three key operating metrics required to safely reopen: covidactnow.org (1) Infection rate (2) Testing capacity (3) ICU capacity Is your community ready to begin reopening?

We're building covidactnow.org to solve a devilish problem: if you try to fight covid in the present *you will lose* (Italy). You can only beat covid by understanding what it will do to you in the near future. Western leaders need the tools to do this. More tomorrow..

The San Francisco Standard wrote about the policy and political work families including mine are helping to organize in San Francisco. Thread 🧵
NEW: Abundant SF — a group of tech workers raising families in the city — intends to become the next political power broker in San Francisco. The group's founder says they'll pool $4-5 million a year for decades to try and transform SF policy on🏘️🚗👩🏽‍🎓🏞️ sfstandard.com/politics/tech-…

Woa. @AnnieLowrey deems #SB50 "the most economically transformative legislation of the Trump era". Agreed. California is the 5th largest economy in the world and #SB50 is the first proposed solution that matches the scale of the housing crisis.
