California YIMBY is a statewide advocacy organization working to pass legislation to end CA’s housing shortage by empowering and growing the YIMBY movement.
We won big on housing in 2025. Now we're supporting more housing champions to keep it going.
California YIMBY's latest round of 2026 endorsements is here.
Announcements coming today — full list of all endorsements so far at:
[VICTORY ALERT] AB 130, which creates a broad CEQA exemption for infill housing projects, has been signed by Governor Newsom. Because it is part of the budget, it is effective immediately.
[VICTORY ALERT] Governor Newsom has signed AB 1154, which will make it faster, cheaper, and easier to add small accessory dwelling units to existing homes.
When the LA city council opposed our first transit oriented upzoning bill on local control grounds in 2018, rent was $1,663.
They have opposed every subsequent bill with the same rationale: trust us, we will fix it ourselves.
Now rent is $2,625. Enough is enough. Pass SB 79.
The City of LA, embarrassingly, just voted to oppose #SB79 (legalizing housing near transit).
Watch this incredible rebuttal from @cd4losangeles, where she says that the city isn't acting in good faith to address the housing crisis, & that state intervention has been necessary.
Why don't politicians ever talk abt zoning reform? American urban design is a health hazard imo. This would immediately open up a lot of real estate that otherwise the dems are talking abt having to spend taxpayer money building to reduce scarcity/ costs.
but Also the best
The City of Los Angeles could largely solve its $1 billion budget shortfall by allowing more homes to be built near its transit stations, according to a report out today from Streets For All, an LA-based safe streets and land use advocacy organization.
[VICTORY ALERT] @GavinNewsom has signed AB 835, the single-stair study bill! Thanks to @alex_lee for his leadership on moving California toward international best practices for fire suppression and livable apartments. More on single-stair here:
Last year, Governor Walz signed legislation to study legalizing single-stair apartment buildings up to 75' tall and to retroactively exempt Minneapolis' pro-housing 2040 Plan from environmental review.
We are thrilled to announce SB 79, a new bill from @Scott_Wiener that will legalize multi-family housing near transit. We are excited to co-sponsor this landmark legislation with @SPUR_Urbanist, @streetsforall, and @BayAreaCouncil.
