Supporting a colleague @bmj_latest "always approach with compassion and kindness" ‘Are you ok?’ or ‘You don’t seem yourself, or Do you want to talk?’ The smallest gesture can make the greatest difference.

Absolutely spot on- the widespread use of term 'mental health' is almost meaningless While seeking to destigmatise mental disorders, it has led to marginalisation & more discrimination of people with conditions like psychosis/schizophrenia. @Martha_Gill

The UK race report concludes that deprivation, family structures & geography— but not ethnicity, are risk factors for health inequalities But it ignores much evidence that systemic racism, e.g. rising residential segregation drives disparities @bmj_latest go.shr.lc/3u97aED

Can we stop using the phrase "treatment resistance" in psychiatry? It blames the disorder or the patient and not the treatment offered. Interesting article #WorldPsychiatry but “difficult to treat” phrase is even worse onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/wp…

"Many elderly people were administered morphine instead of oxygen despite available supplies, effectively ending their lives. If Sweden wants to do better in future pandemics, the scientific method must be re-established"

There is an undiagnosed disconnect between what doctors think their patients understand & what they actually take with them Good communication is vital, as is understanding the patient's perspective @AbraarKaran @bmj_latest go.shr.lc/2VVXAbz
