F.A.Q.
Where can I park?
Free parking is available within MDC campus. We recommend driving up to the 3rd floor of the parking garage for easy access through a walkway that leads directly from the garage to the event space.
Will there be food available?
Coffee and snack vendors will be providing items for sale on the 3rd floor where the event is. Additionally, MDC’s Gordo Cafe on the 1st floor will be open until 4pm and will have full lunch menu items for sale.
Can I attend the coding workshops with my child?
Parents can sit through the workshops with their child but there is very limited space. We invite parents to instead join the free parent talk sessions happening next to the main stage right outside the workshop rooms. See event agenda for more info.
What is the age minimum to attend the workshops?
We recommend students be at least 8 years old and have basic keyboarding/computing skills.
What materials and preparation does my child need to attend the workshop?
Workshop participants must bring their own laptop. If siblings are attending together we recommend they code on their own laptop. (Limited laptops will be available to check out for students who need it).
How can my student participate in the coding competition?
Code/Art’s runs 3 individual creative coding competitions: CodeYourSelf™, Animated Art, and Game Design (grades 3-12) and one team competition for high school students called Changemaker. Learn more at code-art.com/compete.
Do you have any perks for teachers planning field trips?
Yes. Please fill out this form if you’re planning a field trip with a group of your students. We’re offering free t-shirts and waived workshop fees (while supplies last).
I can't attend in person, will there be online sessions?
Code/Art’s closing ceremony consisting consisting of keynote guest speaker and awards ceremony celebrating all competition finalists and winners will be broadcasted live on our Facebook and YouTube page. All winners of the competitions who are not present will have their prizes or gift cards mailed.
