Songwriting

So in the midst of Corona and nine months into a new relationship I have been finding it really difficult to write.  Not find time to write, that’s coming by the bucket load right now but finding it just hard in general to write.

I’m not motivated to write.  I’m fine with editing.  I can edit my current work and get it changed in the Word document and I’m excited that I have finished a few projects but I’m struggling with most things that are new… except, it seems, songs!

My brother wrote a song about his faith and God being there and it inspired me!  I have now written three.  Except that I don’t write music.  I don’t know HOW to write music!  So I have lyrics and I have it all worked out but I haven’t a clue about how to the write the melody for it!  I don’t play an instrument though I sing so I understand music but I have always read it.  I have never written it!

From what I have read it’s like talking… well kind of!  So I have done my best with my most recent lyrics because this tune kind of bounced into my head… for ONE line.  But that has taken me through to the other lines.

The second issue is WHERE can I write it?  Sure I can print pages with musical bars on it and sure I can write out the musical notations (I believe that’s what they’re called) but other than the melody I can’t do more than that!  I can’t find any software that will allow me to add guitar and rhythm.  Everything I’ve recorded the melody on runs out of space so it only allows me to record so much.

I feel like my hands are tied.  My mom has an electronic keyboard but I don’t know the first thing about recording from it!

Anyway, something I had no idea I had an inkling towards and now I have THREE! I’m excited but I’m not accustomed to not finishing something.

This week, with everything that has happened, my moods have changed like the weather!  One day my mood has been stormy, another has been sunny and warm!

I’m trying desperately to get my daughter on board with timelines as things need to happen if they’re going to happen.  I’m sorry this happened to her, it was wrong on so many levels, yet it did and it needs to be managed.

The other day I sat at the other office easily engrossed in editing my own work… the Christmas Judge story that is.  I was eagerly making markings on the page with my pencil.  I haven’t been able to resume since.

I was also quite eagerly editing the newest story I wrote and that fell flat as well as soon as I turned the page and wrote a note to myself that I need to “insert more here”.

The weather forecast for Thursday to Friday was 2-4 cm of snow… we got 12 INCHES!  It was heavy.  I opened my curtains yesterday to the beauty that comes with that much snow on trees and shrubs but I groaned when I saw the sheer quantity of it and had to shovel it off my walk because it looked light and fluffy but it was heavy, heavy, heavy!

There are times, in my new(ish) relationship that I feel so overwhelmed by feelings that I feel like I’m going to burst but other times the emotions fall flat.

I think I’m just trying to redefine so much of my life.  What I had before compared to this… well, they don’t compare.  Time, valuable time, is being spent and is rewarding, uplifting and amazing.  It’s more than any one thing and, as an author, I feel like I should be able to put that into words but I can’t which is frustrating.  I can’t define my own feelings but can easily give feelings and thoughts to fictional characters that exist only in my head.

Reedsy had some great story starters this week based on MAGIC!  Go check them out!  Give one or two of them a try because I’m, once again, just not in the mood to write.

One and a half days to go at the travel clinic and then I’m on vacation from there for 9 1/2 days (all by booking off 1 1/2 days which I thought was an excellent tradeoff)!

I should be so excited but I really do need time off from the politics, well, let’s just call it what it is… stupidity… in that place!

My stones arrived in the mail yesterday and I got my ring fixed! I can once again show it off with confidence! I can’t say, for sure, if it will stay put and I may need to acquire some jewelry glue or take it to a jeweler to have the stone set better within the claws but I did get my jewelry-making tools out and very carefully pressed down on the claws to close them better.

As for Charmed Aroma, the biggest piece of advice I can give there is to NOT even think about using a piece of their jewelry to commemorate anything because it could lead to disappointment.

What are my plans for my time off?  I will still be working the Tuesday afternoons and Thursdays at the doctor’s office but otherwise I intend on getting some ME time, rest, relaxation, some editing time, some WRITING time and some time with the man!

Next weekend is our Family Day weekend in most of Canada and it will be great to maybe spend some time playing games, watching movies, sitting by fires or whatever.  For me, add writing to that list for sure because I really need to get back to it!  I feel like I need a couple of story starters and I know that the history of this blog has been me providing them to you but maybe you can toss some ideas back at me!

Time to go pack for a great evening of rest and relaxation ahead!  Have a great rest of the weekend!

Frustrated Today

I don’t know why I feel so frustrated today but I have a good idea.

WHY?

I had a pretty quiet weekend.  Birthday party, saw the horses, watched endless Christmas movies that would make most men throw up, edited, blogged, went and took pictures at the park for the first time in almost 2 years and swam… several times… but it was all on my time.  Yes, I had headaches, several of them but the weekend was just really nice.

Then back to work this morning… nope, first I woke at 5:00 and did manage, at some point, to get back to sleep… wasn’t enough though so I’m at work and I’m tired.  I’m also getting another headache which may or may not be related to the fatigue, the weather or the damn chair at the office!  Combination of all three?

It didn’t help that at one point I was getting text messages like crazy… and my adrenaline levels shot up when the text from my mom starts of OH MY GOD! She goes on to say that my dad was throwing some stuff down the ravine behind their trailer (they’ll cut the grass and rake leaves and toss it down… not garbage or anything else!) and he went with it!  Heart pounding, mind racing… who can cover for me and how fast can I get to Goderich!  Will be putting the Rogue to the test today… but, she goes on to say, that he managed to grab onto a small tree but she had to use a rope to help him back up.

I’m sure now you understand!

On the writing/editing front I have managed to come up with a few more titles… most starting with Bridge of… Tears; Love; Hope; Loss; Jealousy; Secrets.  You get the idea… the only thing is that the bridge is just the focal point of the village but other than some stolen kisses and tears it’s just there.

I still like Haven of Secrets which led me to actually come up with the name for the B&B and even though it’s her aunt and uncle’s I thought they could name it Cozy Haven B&B and when they decide they can’t look after it anymore they will give it to her… hence the name… I think it all fits perfectly!

It’s getting there… slowly!  I also find myself making way more changes than I should be at this point… I think I’m either getting picky or overthinking.  However, there are words missing and I’m wondering if I accidentally removed them when I was highlighting sections to put changes in… will REALLY have to watch that in the next round!

I was delighted to get a comment today and it was reassuring to see that I’m not the only one who will abandon Camp NaNoWriMo this month because of other “things”!

We don’t always get the opportunity to write what we think we should be writing!  I know that we are the writers but there sometimes seems to be someone else in control of the what!

I find I cannot be all things to all characters until I’m published and fully able to leave those characters behind for good and the ones from this novel seem to be sticking around for the long haul.

However, there’s a lot of chatter going on!  I added 1,000 words yesterday to this manuscript and today I managed to spend a couple of hours and added another 1,500 words to it!  All this on a novel I thought was complete but for proofreads.  And it’s not like my writer brain said it needs more… the characters are still alive and well and needing different parts added.

So, like my reader who commented, I too, will likely end up putting my Camp NaNo on hold until November and I will resort to finishing this glorious work in the time it takes.

I guess I can chalk up another blog post for today… YAY me!

Tomorrow I am going to talk a little about this novel of mine.  I really need to title it so I can reference it in my posts easier.  With all the works in progress at the moment I feel like I’m confusing you!

Perhaps I’ll get a couple of suggestions from you?

Though I should have been writing other things today I grabbed my manuscript and couldn’t put it down!

My friends… I have added another 1,000 words to the first 50 pages of my novel!  I couldn’t believe it!  I have three times that much to go so does that mean an additional 3,000 words?  It’s not a bad thing as that will bring my close to 55,000 words but…

I thought I was done with it and it would only needed some spelling and grammar corrections!

Sigh!

Of course my NaNoWriMo project has been put completely on hold with all this and I need to get off my butt and get back to work on the other three articles as well… thankfully I did a fair bit of fleshing out of those so I can easily pick up where I left off.

I need another week off of work… possibly more!  These are the moments when the feelings are most intense… when I wish beyond wishes that my novels, even a few of them, had sold, with movie rights so that I had every hour of every day to sit and write… the articles, for the paper and, of course, more novels that would, naturally, continue to sell.

However, the reality is I am back to work tomorrow so everything going forward will now take me longer.

Also, I had added a week to my daily blogging and I’m not certain, after this post, if I will continue not.  I will see how I feel after my first day back to work tomorrow… you never know, I might find some inspiration or I might want to curse a blue streak!

Even if I don’t continue daily blogging I will return to weekly, or maybe twice a week and, as always, keep you up to date!  I hope to have a title and synopsis for this novel sooner than later but, apparently, I have to edit it again to make it happier!

Today we celebrate the 152nd birthday of our country!  That’s a lot of years, a lot of governments, a lot of decisions made.  We have had births and deaths, we have fought wars and suffered great loss.  We are a free country which we can thank a countless number of troops for and, today, the Toronto Blue Jays honoured them by including them in their opening ceremonies like they have for many years now.

The unfurling of a 2000 lb flag sends shivers up my spine each time I see it and it only happens twice a year.  It’s incredible.

Those troops, and so many more including more lives lost than can be counted, have given me the ability to share my opinion here without being sought out and shot for my opinions, or not even my opinions.  It might just be that I’m a writer or that I’m a mom or that I have the nerve to even share words with you no matter how unpolitical.

Thank you!

That leads me to my writing today… Camp NaNoWriMo is now underway and I have written 2,624 words today.  I need to come up with some character names because I can’t keep writing “he”, “she”, “him”, “her”… you get the idea.  If I don’t I’m going to get very confused as I add more words!  The great thing about that word count is that if I keep that up I will reach my goal of 25,000 words in 10 days.

I went onto Amazon and looked up Leap of Faith… well that’s going to be a NO.  Everyone has written a book with that title from non-fiction titles to Danielle Steel.  What’s unfortunate about that is how ideal that title would be and now I will have to try to think of some variations.  This is very much going to be something linked to deep beliefs and the power of a Higher Being in this world.  The abilities we forget about or, rather, set aside instead of acknowledging and giving praise.  The power of love and prayer and hope.

Of course you can add romance to that list but that is the basis of all my work… no matter what it’s always in there!

Vacation has begun…

And I’m feeling incredibly depressed… I’m trying to figure out why though because I’m on vacation.

Why? Why? Why?

I haven’t written or done any editing in days?

I am now done work for a week so perhaps I’m just letting it all go?

I’ve been in a lot of pain this week… back pain, neck pain, repeated headaches as well as a large canker on the underside of my tongue that is not healing and rests on a nerve that, I believe, is causing me to feel pain in my jaw and my right ear.  Like I needed the last two with all of the other pain?

I started to feel this way around the time the rain started?

Maybe I need to write myself as a character in order to figure it all out.

Tomorrow I have a couple of choices… I could go to the trailer and visit my parents for the day, or I could do that on Sunday… either day the weather looks better at home than it does there.

I guess I’m not getting any of my assignments so when that will happen is beyond me… I wanted them so that I had the extra time to work on them… I even reached out to both and have had no response in return, again.

I will just carry on with my own writing then… no complaints there!

I’m extremely tired, have been all day… you know you’re tired when you try to put your make-up on in the wrong order.

Today… well today was just today.

I had a consult appointment with a patient around the corner at the wellness studio and have been struggling with headaches for four days now.  Today it did go away on its own but I’m noting that it might actually be returning and seeing thunderstorms in the forecast for tomorrow is very likely the cause of that.

I managed to get a manuscript into a binder and will hopefully be able to deliver that sometime this weekend.  I never got mine done though… transfer the original manuscript to another binder and get the fresh copy in so I can start proofreading.  I wonder how much I will change despite the edit not being for that!

My 30 days experiment with daily blogging is almost up and I’m not sure how I’m feeling about it.  There have been a few days that I have posted because I made a pact that I was going to blog for 30 days.  Is it worth it?  Has it been worth it?  I have enjoyed it for the most part.

There have been a couple of days that it’s all I have written so it has kept me writing daily no matter what.  There have been a couple of days when I’ve literally stuffed in a post near the end of my day for the reason above.

This month has been significant in that I finished writing a new novel and vowed to write 30 blog posts in 30 days.  I have also managed to edit that novel I finished writing and it’s probably the first novel I’ve ever written and edited in this short a time frame.  I also had my first two patients at the wellness studio and had my very first articles run in the Waterloo Region Rural Post!

With all of that it has been exciting to share the news with my readers.

So do I proceed and continue this daily blogging?  I am on vacation next week so what I might do is continue blogging daily through next week and then decide next weekend if I will continue after that… so that means after Sunday completes my 30 posts in 30 days I will post at least seven more times before I decide if I will continue or be able to continue.  It will still be 37 posts in 37 days which will still be a record for me no matter what.

I bid you all a goodnight as I prepare to go to bed soon as I’m getting more tired as it gets later!

Up until now I haven’t written a single word today; in fact I haven’t looked at anything writing related today.  It seems that I am in need of these days to regroup and I don’t know why exactly because two weeks ago I had no issue.  Last week I had to force myself just to do some editing on Wednesday but was out of the starting gate at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday.

I have still not been feeling great.  Headache came back, still have this canker and sore ear and this afternoon I had to stop part way down the stairs as pain shot through my back.

It’s also hot… this is fabulous and I will never complain but, as we all know, it’s hard when the weather jumps from 22-23 degrees to almost 30 overnight and we aren’t entirely prepared.

I hooked up the air conditioner upstairs this afternoon so that maybe my sleep will be better?  Maybe I will end up headache free tomorrow?

Tomorrow I have a few things I want to do before I reach my vacation starting at 4:30 on Friday… just tidy up the work space/dining room and prepare a manuscript for a reader.

I will have lots of writing to do and I do want to sink my pencil into my manuscript and start my proofreading at the same time as I start on some articles that I don’t have titles for yet… and hope I get really soon!

I’m going keep this short as it’s time for me to go jump in the pool!
