Activation Limits


Activation limits control how many devices can use each license key, preventing unauthorized sharing while allowing legitimate customers flexibility.

How Limits Work

  1. Customer purchases key
  2. Activates on device 1 → Count: 1/limit
  3. Activates on device 2 → Count: 2/limit
  4. Reaches limit → Cannot activate more devices

Setting Activation Limits

For Individual Keys

  1. Go to Key Manager > Keys > Add Key (or edit)
  2. Find Activation Limit field
  3. Enter a number or leave blank (blank will give unlimited limit)
  4. Submit

This limit takes precedence.

Activation vs Validation

Validation (Does NOT count towards limit):

  • Checking if key is valid
  • Verifying expiry date
  • Getting version info

Activation (DOES count towards limit):

  • First-time setup on device
  • New installation
  • Re-install on new device
API endpoint: /?wckm-api=activate_key

Customer Options

  1. Deactivate old device, then activate new device
  2. Contact support for limit increase
  3. Purchase additional license

Admin Options

  1. Increase limit: Edit key, change Activation Limit
  2. Deactivate old activation: Go to Activations, deactivate specific instance
  3. Grant exception: Override limit check
