Activation limits control how many devices can use each license key, preventing unauthorized sharing while allowing legitimate customers flexibility.
How Limits Work
- Customer purchases key
- Activates on device 1 → Count: 1/limit
- Activates on device 2 → Count: 2/limit
- Reaches limit → Cannot activate more devices

Setting Activation Limits
For Individual Keys
- Go to Key Manager > Keys > Add Key (or edit)
- Find Activation Limit field
- Enter a number or leave blank (blank will give unlimited limit)
- Submit
This limit takes precedence.
Common Configurations
| License Type | Activation Limit | Use Case |
| Single-user | 1 | Individual software license |
| Multi-device | 3 | Personal multi-device |
| Family | 5 | Family/home use |
| Business | 10-25 | Small team |
| Enterprise | (blank) unlimited | Team license |
| Subscription | (blank) unlimited | SaaS, recurring access |
Activation vs Validation
Validation (Does NOT count towards limit):
- Checking if key is valid
- Verifying expiry date
- Getting version info
API endpoint: /?wckm-api=validate_keyActivation (DOES count towards limit):

- Re-install on new device
API endpoint: /?wckm-api=activate_keyCustomer Options
- Deactivate old device, then activate new device
- Contact support for limit increase
- Purchase additional license
Admin Options

- Deactivate old activation: Go to Activations, deactivate specific instance
- Grant exception: Override limit check
Troubleshooting
| Issue | Cause | Solution |
| Cannot activate | Limit reached | Deactivate old device or increase limit |
| Wrong count | Old activation not cleared | Manually deactivate activation |
| Customer unhappy | Limit too restrictive | Increase limit or offer upgrade |
