Day 22- NaPoWriMo’18 – Bermuda Triangle Island!

Published 23rd April 2018 by viewsofpreethib

Day 22: And now for our daily prompt (optional as always). I’ve found this one rather useful in trying to ‘surprise’ myself into writing something I wouldn’t have come up with otherwise. Today, I’d like you to take one of the following statements of something impossible, and then write a poem in which the impossible thing happens:
The sun can’t rise in the west.
A circle can’t have corners.
Pigs can’t fly.
The clock can’t strike thirteen.
The stars cannot rearrange themselves in the sky.
A mouse can’t eat an elephant.

Happy writing!

Bermuda Triangle Island!

The Bermuda triangle,
Threw our ship in a mysterious place,
We woke up with an aww-stuck vision,
Never could we imagine,
Here, the sun rises from the west.

Day 21- NaPoWriMo’18 – Narcissus!

Published 22nd April 2018 by viewsofpreethib

Day 21: And now for our (optional) prompt. In her interview, Brim provides us with several suggestions for generative writing exercises, and we’d like to challenge to today to tackle her third one, which is based in the myth of Narcissus. After reading the myth, try writing a poem that plays with the myth in some way. For example, you could imagine that imagine the water is speaking to you, the narcissus flower. Or you could write a poem in which the narcissus berates the Kardashians for stealing their neurosis. Or a poem that comments on the narcissism of our time, i.e. beauty and body obsession, etc.

Narcissus!

He was famous for his beauty,
Gorgeous hot model in the industry,
He was on the top list for most wanted models,
For any product, ads, events he was the first option…

21ST APRIL’18 – A TO Z CHALLENGE – LETTER ‘S’

Published 21st April 2018 by viewsofpreethib

20th April’18 – Letter ‘S’

The word I choose for the letter ‘S’ is Sensitive.

The quote I choose to go with the word S is- “Never apologize for being sensitive or emotional. Let this be a sign that you’ve got a big heart and aren’t afraid to let others see it. Showing your emotions is a sign of strength.”

People who are sensitive anything and almost everything affects them very deeply as are emotionally attached to things, words or people. This current generation or in the current world people do not live or even tolerate those who are sensitive. In this fast world, people have no time for real conversations. They were days when people really mean what they said but today the words seem like a fashion statement in their lives. They no longer mean what they say; it is only a word of fancy.

Day 20- NaPoWriMo’18 – Rebellion In Your Eyes!

Published 21st April 2018 by viewsofpreethib

Day 20: Our prompt for the day (optional as always) takes its cue from Notley’s rebelliousness, and asks you to write a poem that involves rebellion in some way. The speaker or subject of the poem could defy a rule or stricture that’s been placed on them, or the poem could begin by obeying a rule and then proceed to break it (for example, a poem that starts out in iambic pentameter, and then breaks into sprawling, unmetered lines). Or if you tend to write funny poems, you could rebel against yourself, and write something serious (or vice versa). Whatever approach you take, your poem hopefully will open a path beyond the standard, hum-drum ruts that every poet sometimes falls into.

Rebellion In Your Eyes!

You tried to suppress me from infant,
You preached it to be right,
Girls should always compromise,
I trusted you blindly, So agreed with forced smile,
Though sad, I said “OKAY DAD”.

20TH APRIL’18 – A TO Z CHALLENGE – LETTER ‘R’

Published 20th April 2018 by viewsofpreethib

20th April’18 – Letter ‘R’

The word I choose for the letter ‘R’ is Respect.

The quote I choose to go with the word Respect is- “True leaders always practice the three R’s: Respect for self, Respect for others, Responsibility for all their actions”.

Today I would like to share more quotes from others and a little less about me. However, all the quotes listed below would give away my opinions/thoughts feelings about “Respect for self and for others”.

Day 19- NaPoWriMo’18 – Dance!

Published 20th April 2018 by viewsofpreethib

Day 19: Our (optional) prompt for the day takes it cue from Brady’s suggestion that erasure/word banks can allow for compelling repetitive effects. Today we challenge you to write a paragraph that briefly recounts a story, describes the scene outside your window, or even gives directions from your house to the grocery store. Now try erasing words from this paragraph to create a poem or, alternatively, use the words of your paragraph to build a new poem.

My paragraph:  Later in the evening we had to attend the reception where we were asked to dance after the cake cutting and speech. I danced like crazy, Yes you read it right, I DANCED. You might think how the hell did I dance in the night when I cried so much in the morning, how I smiled, how I had fun when my parents were lying on a bed in the hospital. Go on, You can judge me like others too, but my lord knows the truth. Yes, I had never in my life danced like that before, I danced for almost two hours on the floor with a fake smile hiding my tears, my pain, my burden, my suffering, my insecurities, my fear, my loneliness, my helplessness from everyone while I danced screaming loudly and crying inside my heart. Yes, there was a moment when my tears rolled down my cheeks having no control, I stepped back for a minute dancing, hiding those tears from everyone (thank god nobody caught me in tears) and came back on the floor again with the fake smile doing the thumkas on the Bollywood songs. Dance was a magical medicine for me, that night DANCING helped me overcome all those emotions; releasing my frustration giving me more strength to face tomorrow’s new challenges with a fake smile in-front of my parents the next day in the hospital.

Dance!

I cried in the morning,
My parents on bed in the hospital,
Night,
In the reception,
For two hours I danced like crazy.

19TH APRIL’18 – A TO Z CHALLENGE – LETTER ‘Q’

Published 19th April 2018 by viewsofpreethib

19th April’18 – Letter ‘Q’

The word I choose for the letter ‘Q’ is Quiet.

The quote I choose to go with the word Q is- “Take a quiet walk with Mother Nature. It will nurture your mind, body, and soul”.

Quiet, the word quiet itself makes me feel so relaxed. I really need my own quiet time every single day at-least for thirty minutes, if not it would make me very restless and cranky. Do you feel the same way? Would you get cranky too when you do not get “quiet” time for yourself?

Day 18- NaPoWriMo’18 – How Can My Smile Heal?

Published 19th April 2018 by viewsofpreethib

Day 18: Our prompt for the day (optional as always) isn’t exactly based in revision, but it’s not exactly not based in revision, either. It also sounds a bit more complicated than it is, so bear with me! First, find a poem in a book or magazine (ideally one you are not familiar with). Use a piece of paper to cover over everything but the last line. Now write a line of your own that completes the thought of that single line you can see, or otherwise responds to it. Now move your piece of paper up to uncover the second-to-last line of your source poem, and write the second line of your new poem to complete/respond to this second-to-last line. Keep going, uncovering and writing, until you get to the first line of your source poem, which you will complete/respond to as the last line of your new poem. It might not be a finished draft, but hopefully it at least contains the seeds of one. Happy writing!

The poem I have choose is “The power of a Smile” by Tupac Shakur.

Original Poem : The Power of a Smile

The power of a gun can kill
and the power of fire can burn
the power of wind can chill
and the power of a mind can learn
the power of anger can rage
inside until it tears u apart
but the power of a smile
especially yours can heal a frozen heart  – by Tupac Shakur

My take on the prompt based on the above poem:

How Can My Smile Heal?

How can you be sure it can heal a frozen heart?
How is my smile so powerful?
When you know the pain inside me has torn me apart,

18TH APRIL’18 – A TO Z CHALLENGE – LETTER ‘P’

Published 18th April 2018 by viewsofpreethib

18th April’18 – Letter ‘P’

The word I choose for the letter ‘P’ is Pollyanna.

The quote I choose to go with the word Pollyanna is- “What is wrong in being a Pollyanna”.

For those who wish to know the meaning of the word Pollyanna, it means an excessively cheerful or optimistic person. I have used this word in one of my poems so I decided to choose this word. However, while I was surfing for quotes on this word, I got to know about two new things related to this word.
1) There is a movie called Pollyanna and,
2)I came across a game called “Glad Game” or also called as “The Pollyanna Play 30 Day Challenge”.

Day 17- NaPoWriMo’18 – It Was Me!

Published 18th April 2018 by viewsofpreethib

Day 17: Our prompt for the day (optional as always) follows Gowrishankar’s suggestion that we write a poem re-telling a family anecdote that has stuck with you over time. It could be the story of the time your Uncle Louis caught a home run ball, the time your Cousin May accidentally brought home a coyote and gave it a bath, thinking it was a stray dog, or something darker (or even sillier).

It Was Me!

Kids are innocent,
It is indeed a true statement,
Aunts kids, the angels were seven,
My brother and me twins were taken,
For summer holidays in 1994,
For a week we stayed with our cousins,
