Starting January 1, 2026, nationals of Turkmenistan who are found otherwise eligible for a B1/B2 visa must post a bond of up to $15,000. At the time of the interview, the consular officer will inform the applicant whether they are eligible for a visa and will provide instructions on how to pay this bond. Applicants must not use any third-party website for posting the bond, nor pay a bond before instructed to do so by a consular officer. B1/B2 visas for nationals of Turkmenistan cannot be issued until the bond has been paid. This requirement applies regardless of place of application.
Applicants for U.S. nonimmigrant visas should schedule their visa interview appointments at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate in their country of residence or nationality. Visa application fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. For more information, visit travel.state.gov.
All individuals applying for an A-3, C-3 (if a domestic worker), G-5, H1-B, H-3, H-4 dependent of H-1B and H-3, F, M, J, K-1, K-2, K-3, Q, R-1, R-2, S, T, or U nonimmigrant visa are instructed to adjust the privacy setting on all social media accounts to “public” or “open” to facilitate vetting necessary to establish their identity and admissibility to the United States under U.S. law. Pursuant to Presidential Proclamation 10998 on Restricting and Limiting the Entry of Foreign Nationals to Protect the Security of the United States, which takes effect at 12:01 a.m. Eastern Standard Time on January 1, 2026, the United States is suspending or limiting entry and visa issuance to nationals of 39 countries as well as individuals applying using travel documents issued or endorsed by the Palestinian Authority. Applicants who are subject to Presidential Proclamation 10998 may still submit visa applications and attend scheduled interviews, but they may be ineligible for visa issuance or admission to the United States. The U.S. Embassy has specific requirements for the condition of U.S. dollars. The Embassy will not accept U.S. dollars that are dirty, damaged, torn, marked, stamped, nor older than 1997. The Consular Section does not accept Turkmen manats for payment. Applicants should keep in mind that the visa application fee is not refunded in the event of a visa refusal.

Consular officer will inform you about pick up date and time at the end of your visa interview. Please make sure that you bring pictured ID with you (Internal passport, driver’s license etc.) and be on time.
Temporary & Business Visas: If you are issued the visa, return in 2 working days at 2 pm to collect your passport and visa.
Though you may apply for a non-immigrant visa (tourist, business or student) at the US Embassy in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, citizens of Iran are strongly encouraged to apply at the US Embassy in Ankara, Turkey, the US Consulate General in Dubai, UAE or the US Embassy in Yerevan, Armenia. These locations have Farsi speakers for translation and interview, and expertise in the adjudication of visa applications for Iranian citizens.
