The United States supports international education and welcomes foreign students and exchange visitors. Before applying for a visa, students and exchange visitors must be accepted by their schools or program sponsors.

American English is a resource center for teaching and learning about American English.

EducationUSA advising in Turkmenistan is a part of the global EducationUSA network of more than 400 advising centers supported by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs at the U.S. Department of State. This program offers open and free information on educational opportunities in the U.S. and U.S. standardized entrance tests: TOEFL, SAT, LSAT and GRE.

Alumni activities promote greater contact and cooperation among former participants of USG-sponsored exchange and training programs throughout Turkmenistan. The goal of alumni programs is to increase alumni involvement in community development activities. The U.S. Embassy hosts a number of events and meetings for alumni and shares news and information of general interest.

The U.S. Embassy’s Public Diplomacy Section (PDS) maintains a collection of English language methodology and textbooks that can be checked out by local English language teachers for up to two weeks at a time.

In 2012, U.S. Peace Corps concluded its work in Turkmenistan after two fruitful decades. Peace Corps Volunteers served in all corners of Turkmenistan, taking on a wide range of projects and producing educational and cultural materials. Peace Corps has generously made these materials available for the public.
