San Luis Obispo (SLO) County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) prepares residents to respond safely and confidently when disasters strike. Through hands-on skills, teamwork, and community-focused training, volunteers gain the knowledge needed to protect themselves, their families, and their neighbors.
Our four local CERT programs—Atascadero, Paso Robles, Cambria, and Estero Bay—provide training tailored to the specific hazards faced in each area, ensuring participants are ready for emergencies wherever they live or work.
Disasters can happen at any time. CERT training equips you to take immediate action at home, at work, or in your neighborhood, giving you the tools to prepare, respond, and recover effectively.
Courses teach practical skills for natural disasters common to SLO County—including earthquakes, wildfires, flooding, and tsunamis—while also covering broad principles of disaster preparedness and personal resilience.

CERT Basic Training is a 24-hour course that provides individuals with the basic knowledge and skills required to respond to their community's immediate needs in the aftermath of a disaster, when emergency services are not immediately available. By working together, CERT volunteers can help save lives and protect property by using the basic techniques in this course.
