WE'RE HERE TO HELP

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations.

Estero Bay CERT operates under the auspices of the San Luis Obispo County Community Emergency Response Team. The program receives direction from the City of Morro Bay Fire Department, the Cayucos Fire Protection District, and the Los Osos Community Services District (South Bay Fire), collectively referred to as the “Fire Agencies.”

GOALS & OBJECTIVES

The Estero Bay CERT program trains individuals in neighborhoods, businesses, and industries in emergency preparedness and basic disaster response techniques. This preparation enables volunteers to play an active role in supporting emergency service personnel during disasters safely and effectively.

→ Promote readiness, rescuer safety, and the principle of doing the greatest good for the greatest number.

→ Support national and state Citizen Corps efforts endorsed by the Governor of California, the President of the United States, and the Department of Homeland Security.

→ Train, educate, and inform the public regarding emergency preparedness.

→ Support local Fire Agencies through volunteer service and additional duties as requested.

→ Develop organizational strength through working groups, including trailer inventory, labeling systems, grant research, new ID cards, newsletters, public outreach, and continuing education.

→ Partner with SLO Regional CERT to grow the program through instructor development (Train-the-Trainer).

CERT offers a realistic approach to emergency and disaster situations, preparing citizens to act when professional responders may be delayed.
