Common Database Problems

1. I'm trying to access library databases, but I keep getting an error that says the connection is unsafe.

  • Try clearing your cache (instructions linked below).

  • If that doesn't work (or you don't want to clear your cache) try browsing incognito (instructions linked below).

  • If you're still having issues, try another web browser (click the "security errors" link below to download a new web browser and/or troubleshoot security issues).

2. The databases aren't accepting my username and password, what do I do?

  • If you recently changed your password, your browser might still be remembering your old password. Click the passwords tab (or the link below) for help clearing old passwords from your browser.
  • Are you able to login to Canvas and your Samford portal? If yes, the issue is with your library login privileges. To correct this, contact the library using the Ask Us button on the left or emailing reference@samford.edu.

3. The databases don't seem to remember my username and password and/or keep asking me to pay for articles. How do I fix this?

  • Make sure you're using Samford resources. An easy way to check is to note the url at the top of the screen. Does it have ezproxy.samford.edu in the url somewhere in the top line?  An example is below.
  • If you're not currently using Samford Resources, try starting your search from the library database list (linked below).
  • If you are currently using Samford resources and it's still asking you to pay for articles, try checking for full-text with the steps linked below (the "Where's the Full-Text?" link).

Are you using Samford Resources?

If you signed in successfully, you should have "samford" somewhere in the address bar at the top of the screen. An example from JSTOR is below.

www.jstor.org.ezproxy.samford.edu
