I’ve explained what I do at my job in a previous post, so I’m not going to go over it too much in this one. Basically, I have to enter things into a computer. We’re supposed to enter a certain number of things into the computer each day. Today, when I got to work, we were informed that the number of things that we’re supposed to enter each day has been raised. It basically doubled. That’s fine with me, because I’ve only missed my numbers a couple of times (usually because they pulled me to do other things).
Right before last break, I noticed that one of my coworkers was working on the same skid that he started the day with. The problem with this quota is that some things take longer to enter than others. The things he was entering took forever to enter and I knew he was nowhere near his numbers. When I asked him how many he had entered, he told me he was only halfway there. I was only a few away from meeting my numbers, and I knew that I would get there before the night was over, so I gave him a box off of my skid. The box I gave him was full of things that he could enter very quickly and get him to meet the quota, or at the very least, get him close.
We went to break, and when we came back, I go back to entering things. All of the sudden, I hear him yelling. He’s going off on one of the guys at the other end of the warehouse. I can’t hear what’s being said, other than the occasional F-bomb. When he came back to the station, he tells me that the guy he was yelling at came to his station while we were on break and took almost all of the things out of the box I gave him (which is a real douche thing to do). I tell him to calm down and give him another box full of things. He and the other guy end up apologizing to each other and everything went back to normal.
A little while later, my supervisor (who was on break when all of this went down) comes up and asks me what happened because my name was mentioned when he heard the story. I tell him what I knew, which wasn’t much as I wasn’t there when they were arguing or apologizing to each other. I was then told that if I was going to be giving out my work from now on, I shouldn’t give it to just one person, I should give some to everybody. It was basically the teacher asking if you brought enough gum for the whole class.
So, by doing a nice thing for one of my coworkers, I almost started a fight and got reprimanded by my boss. What the hell?
