14th Anniversary

I got on here Wednesday morning to start writing my Friday post, and I was greeted with this notification:

Once again, I looked back on my journey on this here blog. It started off with me just posting random things, mostly about my life. Then, I left here for a while to post on a different blog. Eventually, I came back to post here, mostly about my fiction and geeky things, and have been here ever since.

How long will I remain here? That’s the question I keep coming back to when I’m thinking about this blog. There are times when I want to keep going, but the majority of the time, I feel like walking away. Either way, I did say I was going to post once a week this year and I always try to keep my word. So, you’re stuck with me for a little bit longer, at least.

I’m Still Here

As longtime readers of mine may know (if there are any of you left out there), I have an on again/off again relationship with this blog. Over the years, there’s been many times when I’ve taken breaks from posting. Sometimes, it’s only a week or two. Other times, like this last one, it’s many months.

The reason I took this latest break was that I felt like I needed to post on this blog. I know I didn’t need to, but I felt like I had to. Because I had that feeling that it was something I had to do, it turned something that should be done for recreation into work. Or a chore. Since I have more than enough of both of those things offline, I stepped away.

I stopped writing blogs. I stopped reading them. Well, regularly, at any rate. I still hopped on every once in a while to check things out, but there were usually weeks in between checks.

While talking to my writing partner Matticus, he told me of his plan to start posting once a week. I thought about it and figured I’d give it a shot. I’m going to steal his idea and post once a week, too. Hopefully, it’ll help get me back into a blogging state of mind. So, starting with this one, I will be putting up a new post every Friday. More than likely, they’ll just be about one of the questions that someone at work has asked about video games/comic books/movies/TV shows. I may change that up as I go along. Who knows?

I’m also going to try to get back into the habit of reading other people’s blogs, too, but that’s probably going to take longer for me to get to because I have a lot of things I’m already reading at the moment. If I don’t get to yours right away, I apologize in advance. If there’s a particular post of yours that you’d like me to read, leave me a link in the comments, and I’ll get to it as soon as I can.

Thank you to everyone who has stuck around despite my absence.

Spread the Love – Part 44 1/4

Today, instead of reading my (usually) nonsensical words, you should head on over and enjoy the ramblings of everyone’s favorite Bell Desk employee, The Hook. He’s real. He’s funny. And he’s so full of pop culture references that he sweats them out of his pores.

Check out how great his writing is by clicking here. And, if you liked that, imagine it in book form. What’s that? You don’t have to imagine it? It’s already in book form? Awesome! You can get it here and help support the writing dreams of one of my favorite bloggers, The Hook.

Trying To CheerPepper Again

It’s been a few years since I’ve done the CheerPepper thing. Between life, work, and kids, something always demands more of my attention than this blog does. But, since I promised my dinosaur friend Rarasaur that I’d try to do it this year, that’s what I shall do. I shall endeavor to do it every day.

Because I’m probably not going to have time every day to do it, I’m starting early. For example, this post will publish on November 1st, but it was written about a week and a half in advance. That’s my plan for this month’s posts. I’m going to do as many of them as I can early. I’m also probably going to add quite a few entries into my 99 Words or Less stories category.

Is that cheating? Maybe. But, if I’m going to get through the month, that’s what I’m going to have to do.

On deck for tomorrow is a follow-up to this post.

The Douchetard

A couple of you, the few who are my friends on Facebook, know that I got a talking to at work yesterday because I called someone a douchetard. What I haven’t told yet is the story behind it. Yes, there is a story behind it. I don’t go calling people names for no reason…. usually.

Anyway…

About a week ago, Baby E made me a bracelet at preschool. It’s a beaded thing with all different colors on it. She was so proud of it when she brought it home. The way her eyes lit up was magical.

I would wear it around the house for her those first few days. Then, she started asking me to wear it to work. I didn’t really want to. Not because I didn’t want to wear it, but because I lift and move boxes all day. It’s not a sturdy thing abd I was afraid that it would break if I wore it to work. Eventually, her persistent nagging  (just like her mother…uhh, love you baby!) wore me down and I promised her I’d wear it at work.

Yesterday, I was showing a temp worker what to do. After a few minutes, he asked me about the bracelet. I told him that my daughter made it for me and I promised I’d wear it. He replied, “It’s stupid of you to wear it. It not like she knows whether or not you’re wearing it.”

As tempted as I was to slap the dumbass, I kept myself in check… for the most part. I explained, “It doesn’t matter that she can’t see if I’m wearing it. I told her I would, so I’m going to. It makes her happy and her happiness is a lot more important to me than the opinion of some idiotic douchetard.”

I turned and walked away before he said anything else to me. He went straight to my team lead and told on me. That lead to my team lead asking me if I did, in fact, call the guy a douchetard. I confirmed that I had.

“You shouldn’t have done that. Calling someone that is inappropriate workplace behavior.”

“So is acting like a douchetard, but I don’t see you talking to him.”

That was when he laughed a little and told me that he was only talking to me for appearances sake. He didn’t like the guy’s attitude either, but he had to pretend to yell at me so the guy didn’t go running back to the temp agency claiming that we mistreated their employees.

I can understand that. Plus, as a bonus, I was no longer allowed to be around that guy anymore… which ended up being about another hour after that conversation. Apparently, he gave the same attitude he gave me to the owner’s son (not knowing who he was). He was promptly told to leave.

Ahhh, karma…

4 Word Story

Let’s face it, most of the things on Facebook aren’t worth looking at. My feed is usually a bunch of recipes I’ll never use, videos that other people think are funny (but aren’t), or memes that are misses about half the time. I’m guilty of it too. My posts are usually about football, random thoughts that pop into my head, or pictures of Baby E (so my out of town family can see her). Other than the pictures, my posts are pretty much worthless.

A couple of weeks ago, I came acoss something that I found interesting. It was a picture that said, “Write the saddest story you can think of in just 4 words”. I found this to be oddly challenging. After all, 4 words isn’t really enough to tell a proper story. I read through the comments and saw that most people had put something up about death. It was usually something along the lines of “My loved one died”.

While I will admit that a loved one dying is indeed one of the saddest, if not the saddest, things that can happen, I wasn’t going to go in that direction. I don’t like doing things that everyone else is doing. So, I had to come up with something new.

Bleh

A few months ago, I told you all about a story I was going to write. It was to be written in script form in hopes that,  one day, I could get it turned into a comic book. I was very excited about it. There was a plan and everything.

Originally, I was wanting to take an already established hero that I thought was either, in my opinion, not very good or not very powerful and write a story that turned them into a badass. It was just supposed to be a little fanfic for me to post on this here blog.

When I couldn’t think of one I wanted to do, I decided to reach back and pick one that I had made up years ago that I thought would work. As the story came together in my mind, I thought that since I was using my own characters, I might as well try to get it published. I would love to have one of my stories published in a comic book. So, that’s when I started writing it in script form.

(I know that anyone who has read my old posts would know all that already, but it seemed like less work to summarize those posts than to link them for the people that haven’t. Sorry.)
