With open hands tho little here

I offer thanks this time of year

tho seasons change and winds grow cold

 there’s warmth in smiles of young and old

kindled kindness shared with all

warmly given every fall

gifts of heart like waters flow

from these pools love can grow

foul the water where anger prevails

no tears can quench harsh travails

come look up on bended knee

bountiful is God’s beauty

Today in the United States we celebrate Thanksgiving. It may to some be represented in the food eaten but in our hearts it is for the freedoms we enjoy.

 

 

Indigestion #haibun

I drew a circle on this our last holiday.  My closest family put me through the paces I have to say. Prove what you know and show who you are. I poured my life’s pains direct from my heart. My life had been a mosaic of suffering disaster. Amazing survival the thing that I’ve mastered.

I see the mental scythe as you wield your first blow. How can you chop me suffering after all that you know? Your partner circles me like a blood thirsting tiger. Hunger’s fangs draws the noose ever tighter. The hypocrisy drips silently in tune. I’ve been judged and sentenced all before noon.

You’ve resented me for all of this time.  Just because I’m not willing to tow your one line? I am leaving this craft it’s rotted and sunk. There is nothing worth saving it’s not worthy of junk. My eyes become steely as I recognize. You sup on innuendo, your heart eating lies.

You know where to go to get all of that. Just cross the street for narcissistic fat. Believe what you want, throw the carcass away. Shut the door when you’re done, I’m not going to stay.

You measured my life and found I was wanting.  I have moved on not interested in your haunting. Stalk me and my children if you have so much time. As for me, I am loving life, writing fiction and rhyme.

Little hands reached out

and we grasped them

little mouths spoke

and we listened

little bellies were empty

and we filled them

big minds didn’t justify

they just did

big minds didn’t quantify

they just gave

big hearts reached out

enough love to go around

How do I explain to children like my cousin Zeek that people can’t care or help anymore?

I hope this Thanksgiving we can take stock of what we have and be Thankful and then look for someone to share our bounty with.

It was unexplainable

that moment when I touched you

a giddy colorful rainbow

it was like giggles and hugs

all wrapped in one

It was unexplainable

that walk across the desert

my feet never touched the hot sand

you were firmly holding my hand

and I made it

It was unexplainable

the light in the sky

rays touched my skin

warming from within

and I knew you were near

It was unexplainable

when I learned you had died

taken all the bad things I had done

my heart you’d already won

and I cried

that moment when you touched me

There is always more to look at

always more to see

There are hands given for work

A mind to keep us in thought

a heart

one moment it lies

To be thankful for what you have

have no way out

In my life,  I have been blessed to meet amazing people who had so very little yet had a great capacity for love and thankfulness. I have seen much in this year –  darkness and light/ kindness and cruelty. I am thankful today for life and you. For you make the day seem brighter and life sweeter – Happy Thanksgiving !!!!

More Than Food On Thanksgiving #microfiction

We gather together to ask the Lords blessing…

I heard the song and heard her singing, I had not heard her in more than two decades

She taught me to count my blessings

“I’m trying to remember grandmama

some days are more difficult than others”

I delivered several boxes filled with food for Thanksgiving for a struggling family of 8.

No one knew that on Thanksgiving all I had were two cans of soup, a box of cereal and a quart of milk

“…I ask for your blessing dear Lord”

The Day After… ( look at the poor during the #holidays)

Did you ever think what happens one or two days after you deliver the bountiful basket of groceries for a family in need? I have held both ends of the basket. I’ve delivered many baskets and  received many too. I know the feeling as a child to see the delivery from kind hands and hearts.

After working with the homeless and poor in public health, my face falls when the basket is empty.

Many thanks for those of you with generous hearts this holiday season.
