What can we do with dark days?

The words that swirl around our heads are a cacophony of misery.

But we can reflect on silent beauty like a tiny blossom in gnarled bark.

Reflect not on this world, but on the eternal hope to come.

Christ has died that you might have an eternal hope and abundant life.

This life, this world is like a holograph.

BUT it is not a facsimile of truth it is a reflection of eternal demise.

Call upon the risen one – He is a whisper away.

“These things I have spoken in a figurative language; but the time is coming when I will no longer speak to you in figurative language but I will tell you plainly about the Father…for the Father himself loves you because you have loved Me, and have believed that I came forth from God.” John 16: 25 &27

“If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.”

John 15:7

Thirsty #earthquake #turkey #relief #prompt

This is the prompt from https://thesoundofonehandtyping.com/ Hosted by John Holton

  1. Write a post based on the word thirsty.
  2. Write a post in exactly 8 sentences.
  3. Write about an interaction you had with a salesman.
  4. If you could only focus on three things in life and pursue them fully, leaving everything else, what would they be and why?
  5. Tell us about the most exhausted you’ve ever felt.
  6. Tell us about a place you’ve visited that felt magical to you.

When I met Mohamad, he was nine years old. What a smile that kid had on his face. I knew he and his sisters were thirsty, so I opened water bottles for each of them. Mohammad helped us unload the car. We had oil, flour, beans, jugs of water, soap, and a bag of sweets. His mama brought us chai and we heard the miraculous story…

“When the earth began to shake, I ran out of the building; I guess I wasn’t thinking. Before my family could move, the walls fell; they were trapped. A wall collapsed on my son. My wife refused to leave him.

“No, mama, you must get the children out. I will be okay,” Mohamad called out.

My wife and our four daughters crawled through a small hole I had dug. I yelled for help. Men who had safely gotten out came to help get Mohamed from under the wall before the building came down. We drove him to the hospital in a car that was half its normal height; pieces of building had crushed it. Mohamad lost his leg that night, and we had a baby girl in his hospital room the next morning. Because of our dear Mohamad, our baby lived.” (the temperatures in Hatay were below freezing)

I had ignored that I was thirsty while we worked in the hot, unhealthy earthquake zone. I couldn’t think about myself there were too many refugees who needed our help. When my husband finally dragged me to a clinic, I was exhausted and severely dehydrated.  I would do it again in a heartbeat. I just need water!

One of my roles is working with refugees. I’m a retired nurse, and I teach and run supplies. I love people in the world.

The Children of Our World #needy #forgotten

Threadbare cloth

cold winds look for smallest

children shiver

We meet so many children on the byways of the world. There is something we notice often – when we give a little encouragement, those little faces light up. They soak up any kindness.

Lately we heard from a colleague in a really hard place in the world. Mr. I (yeah he lives in one of those areas where you don’t reveal your true identity) works with the street children in his village every day. They too light up with his kindness and devour the time he spends with them.

Mr. I is having a birthday soon and wants more than any gift in the world to give these children something. Winter is coming and he reached out and said “is there any way we could give these children who have nothing a warm blanket or something to wear before winter hits?”

I dont ask for help on my blog Im a writter not a fundraiser. But my only answer for Mr. I was to send what I could which will help a few of those kids and ask if there is anyone else with $10 who could buy a blanket or shirt and pants for a child with no family, no hope.

Here’s where you could send those funds online

Whether you can help or not thank you for being the light to a child today.

The Needy Shall Not Always be Forgotten… Psalm9:18

It Never Rains… #California #HappyNewYear

“So this is Sunny So Cal. “

“Welcome – we’ve had better days. Right now you can’t see the sun. Pollution always prevents you from seeing it from several parts of LA but the beach is beautiful.”

” What’s that smell?”

“Hmm well we are very close to the ocean and presently there is beach scum a weird phenomenon probably caused by reversed global polarity.”

“Yeah we have noticed in the East that our weather is off but we never smell anything like that.”

” Let’s skip the trip to the coast today. There are other places that I thought you might take me . How about Disney?”

“Yes that’s always a good place to visit but they have posted the limits and the park is already full for the next week.”

” How is that possible?”

” People stay or they are waiting in line until their turn comes up. Ya know we could go north. There are some great wineries once we get out of the valley.”

” I heard many of the best wineries were burned by that last fire y’all had.”

” Oh you mean the So/ North fire? It started in a small forested area but now it connects the no and some of the state. That’s why the air looks brown.”

” I wondered what that burnt smell was. Kind of a combo of over burnt marshmellows and plaxtic mixed with…

“”Well there are many great restaurants in our area. You name it they have it.”

” American?”

“Oh yeah there’s a greasy spoon drive in that’s open.”

” No not really into grease but I do like Middle Eastern.”

” Hmm yes we had a wonderful place the dishes are wonderfully spicy. Someone burned it to the ground. What about seafood? “

“After smelling the seascum I think Ill pass It’s probably radioactive.”

” Well I have a loaf of bread and a can of tuna at my home.”

” Where’s that? “

“Out toward the dessert.”

” Isnt that flames?”

“Well yes yes. We have been evacuated Ive been living in my car. Hmmm How about the airport?”

” Good idea. I think I’ve seen all the best parts of LA. “

“Well please come back and bring some clean air and water with you…”

2020 was a crazy year. Hoping that there’s air to breathe and water to drink in 2021 and that Cali gets a break from …

Borrowed Time #poetry #perspective

“Just living,” she frowned at the wrinkles etching her face.

“There’s no time left,” he drew a circle in the sand.

Both had seen so many sunsets they seemed to watch this one as if it were their last.

“You have to put in the numbers,” a little boy ran up with a stick.

The elderly couple watched as the boy made the circle into a clock.

“We still have a few more hours to play.” A little girl tried to sound very grown up through her lisp.

“Let’s build a castle with a moat.” Another grandchild had her shovel and bucket in tow.

“What a beautiful way to watch the sunset.” The grandmother’s face lit up like the dawn as the weight of time disappeared.

“Yes – together…” He lovingly grabbed her hand.

We live in times of uncertainty. Are we alone in this? No! We are not the only generation or time period that has more questions than answers. We must face challenges with strength not fear. Happy New Year.

A New leaf #fall #hope

Golden arch way

color spectrum full

fall beckons

Fall is such a lovely time of the year. The air cools and we are beckoned to follow a path of golds and reds.

What does today’s path look like? Probably different than one year ago.

Though the path we are on today may seem to go in directions we wish it would not, we (those who believe in Christ) have the assurance that there is hope, fulness and glory at the end of Life’s path.

I cannot imagine what Heaven will look like though I try. Golden, always light, joy are some of the words that accompany the thoughts of heaven. I also imagine the lovely voices of children in this world.

“I saw the Lord sitting on the throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple… The whole earth is full of His glory.” Isaiah 6:1-3

Though the Lord fills the entire space there will be room for us. How is that possible? I guess we will wait to see.

If you do not have that assurance as one who follows Christ do not be dismayed – Christ offers His loving forgiveness to all who will admit that they are a sinner and that Jesus is in fact the one who can wipe (atone) all sin away. Sound easy? it is. Seeking forgiveness means you must put yourself aside and follow the worthy one – Jesus.

Is He radiating hope into your life today? drink from the living water and never thirst again.

Butterfly Fever #covid19 #children

Bethany has been sick with butterfly fever. No one knows how to take care of this. She does not want me to get it though I don’t think a lion can get a butterfly sickness. She is in a butterfly tree -all alone.
At first I was afraid and reminded of how lonely I was without my family. But then I heard a kind voice in the breeze.

“Judah be strong and of good courage do not fear nor be afraid of these things.”
“But how can strength and courage help when my best friend is very sick?”
“The Lord God goes with you (and with your friend). He will not leave you alone. He will not forsake her.”
“So right now God you are taking care of Bethany for me?
“Yes, Judah it is in my promise.”
“I guess courage can sometimes mean we trust God not ourselves. This butterfly sickness has me worried, but you God are stronger than any sickness!!!”

We have friends right now in many countries. The US, Uganda, other parts of Africa, the Middle East.
Some of our friends (like Bethany) are sick and cant get to the doctor. We pray for them and the God who heals and preserves those who are weak that He will be there as He promises.

Other friends can’t get food even when there is supposed to be food given to them (even in the distant villages.)

And there are those who know of the needs who have hope and a little extra  food who are going to these remote areas.

Judah’s verse is found in Deuteronomy 31:6: “Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.”
