Spellbound

I draw the Wheel of Fortune. My seasons are indeed turning. I open maps, searching for a solid place to land. Dazzled by paths that keep shifting, I am transported with a velocity that blurs the threads that have held me in the landscape my feet have raveled in the circles of my years. The unknown spills across my limitations, beyond the boundaries traced by time.
Randomness and change
growing wings in transcendence–
radiant shadows

A haibun for Colleen’s #Poetry Challenge #92, using synonyms for bewitch and treasure.

This is dazzling–both words and image.
(And of course, I love space and time and pushing beyond boundaries. . .) 🙂

Thanks Merril. Colleen’s words were perfect for my state of life and art…

I like the structure on top of the irregularity – not restraining or fencing it in, just adding a level of order that can be used to interpret it or not. Beautiful.

Thanks Claudia. I hadn’t thought of it that way, but I like that view!

This is a great response to Colleen’s prompt. Your words weave a spell of transformation and unexpected change.

Thanks Suzanne. Colleen’s words were just right for the state of my life right now. Which seems to be a reflection of the world around me as well…

Yes it’s weird how closely our personal lives are mirroring the outer world at present.

Not very comfortable for either us or the world…

I was thinking of the world actually. Our wonderful President in particular…

Hi Kerfe – I’m in Awe….I’ve enjoyed reading everyone else’s comments, I’m in agreement with all.

In this piece, I think I am dazzled most by the words. They are so good. The wheel made me uneasy, between web and target, made me think, violence. The contrast is one of the aspects that makes this one special, I think.

Wow. Thanks Jane. It does seem to strike a chord. Perhaps the tension we feel between what we can/try to control and what we can’t.

Could be; like the tension that creates nets, bridges, webs…

Your words, especially in the first paragraph, are very captivating as are the evenness of the stitches and perfect lines of the circles…never really pondered that before

Thanks Janice. The contrast between control (the stitching) and not (watercolor). It wasn’t thought out in that way, but it works.

Yes the contrast works well…and mirrors the imagery in your words.

Randomness is a mysterious aspect of life that eventually, when all is said and done, reveals itself to be a force of unpredictable design like your wheel of fortune or the butterfly effect. Love the wording, “circle of my years.”

Your artwork always mesmerizes me, Kerfe – especially the blues and greens. And then when you add embroidery it adds another whole dimension. Powerful words, as well!

Thanks Betty. I’m finding these circular shapes to be very meditative, for words as well as images.
