It’s been a while

I’ve haven’t been doing much art lately. I had the last of the Etsy river rocks and painted them. I like to have them on hand.

I did this piece on slate for the guys that recently replaced my sidewalk and front stoop. These guys were so good at their jobs. They liked my tribute!

My friend sent me these painted clamshells as an idea. Daughter was down the shore (that’s how we say it in New Jersey) so I asked her to get me some. There’s an artist on TicToc who picks up oyster shells at bars and decoupages them (that’s what the clam shells are, I think). I’m going to try my hand at painting them. It’s something different although I still love rocks.

Regards to all! Hope everyone is enjoying the summer. Nina

March 5, 2023

This is the first painting on paper I’ve done in quite a while. I have been pretty committed to rocks. They’ve made for some nice gifts and to be honest I just love doing them.

If you want to get the perfect rocks, Capcouriers on Etsy’s are great. (Kerfe found them, I’ve reordered several times). Painted in straight black gouache gives a very nice surface. The gouache colors stand out well. Then I spray with a high end gloss spray.

More art on a rock.

Best wishes to all and I apologize for my sporadic posting. I will try harder! Nina

Some small rocks

I ordered more rocks from the Etsy site where Kerfe got my Christmas gift rocks. I didn’t realize they were a smaller size.

I’m happy with how they came out although the larger ones give more surface area (I ordered a batch of the larger ones yesterday).

I really don’t know why I got back into painting rocks again. I’m going to see if my friend who owns a boutique wants to put some around and see if the there’s any interest. Or, alternatively, just give them away.

Rocks and Happy Birthday to Kerfe

Kerfe’s birthday is coming up on Monday and she’s been asking me to post some of the rocks I’ve been doing. I apologize for my absence. It’s been short staffed and they’ve given me more shifts. But I have been back to painting rocks. Kerfe gave me some beautiful ones which feel great in the hand and are inspiring to paint on.

This is a memorial piece done for my manager. She gave me permission to post it. My manager’s husband asked me at the wake to make a stone for Sam. He died young and it was good to make a rock in his honor.

These are going out in the neighborhood today.

These three I feel are special. One I’m going to give to Kerfe who has inspired me over so many years to be true to my art. Happy Birthday Kerfe!

Monday post 11/14/2022

I was under the weather this weekend. I’m posting one of my favorite paintings from a while ago. I did a few of these graffiti paintings.

I took down my outside reading tent and freed up a bunch of rocks that I was using to weigh it down. I got inspired again because painting rocks is fun.

Here’s a few more, unfinished.

And here is the cutest birthday card by my daughter’s boyfriend. Perry turned either nine or ten; we are not sure. I’ve lived with this dog for five years now (daughter too) and he has grown on me.

Have a good week! Nina

Rejects

These rocks may look okay but they are a fail for me. 1. I spackled too heavily in the hopes I could sand them down better. It didn’t work well. 2. Painted the first coat in Ivory Black. It doesn’t work. Sanded and repainted in Jet Black but too late: lumpy and crackly. 3. I don’t plan the color palate, just go by instinct. These are way too Easter-eggy.

I’m not discouraged but I am starting to run out of rocks. I’ll have to collect some of the ruined ones around the ‘hood and redo them.

Last Monday of 2020. Hoping like everyone else in the world for better year.

Some weekend work 12/21/20

Three more finished rocks. These will go out this week as holiday greetings. I’m doing three at a time: spackling, sanding and painting.

A young (12 year old) friend asked me a while ago to illustrate his book. I finally sat down this weekend and tried my best. The book is a fanciful story about a magic porthole, giants and fairies. I hope he likes some of these.

It should be a nice easy week-I’m only working today and tomorrow, off the rest of the week. Have a good week before Christmas-and a lovely and peaceful Christmas Day. Nina.

Gift from Nina

Nina painted me this beautiful rock as a holiday gift.

It looks great on the window sill next to my advent calendar which is filling its winter landscape in nicely.

Thanks Nina!

Weekend stuff

I did a bit of painting and messing around this weekend.

I’m doing some rocks to give instead of cards. These three are done and will be delivered this week.

I glued an embroidered flower onto a rock.

Have a good week! Nina

Gratitude

I’m starting to do some more elaborate rocks in gouache not meant for outside. I am going to send some as Christmas gifts to certain people.

We had a nice Thanksgiving for three. I am grateful that I live with two pretty interesting (if at times baffling) people. My daughter put the holiday spin on things with her flowers and table setting.

A sloppy retrospective of rocks.

Gratitude to the WordPress community for your support: thank you!
