19 Do not quench the Spirit.

    1 Thessalonians 5:19

So what does this mean, ‘Do not quench the Spirit’?

Well, when a fire needs to be put out you pour water on it. That is quenching the fire. To quench the Holy Spirit (which is possible or it wouldn’t be mentioned in scripture) means that you shut Him down when He calls on you.

How many times have you felt the nudging to act upon something but you stop short of doing the thing you should be doing? That’s a form of quenching the Spirit. How many times has a thought come to you to do something good to help someone or to say something to someone? That’s another form of quenching the Spirit. Or how about this example. How many times have you known that you are being called to do something that will benefit you spiritually but you don’t move upon the very thing you’re being called to do? Again, that is quenching the Holy Spirit.

Have you considered how much of a positive profound impact you could be having on someone’s life by simply doing as you’re being called on to do? Lives are being affected when you don’t act. When the Holy Spirit calls you or I into action we must move forward with the call. We must quit second guessing what God wants us to do so that His good will can come about through you or I.

Do you remember the story of Jonah and the whale as a child? Jonah refused at first to act upon what God wanted him to do and that was to go to the pepper of Nineveh and warn them to repent or they would be destroyed by God for their sins. At first he would not go as called to by the LORD, hence God sent a great fish to swallow him up. After being in the belly of the fish for three days he repented and the fish vomited up on the shore. Jonah went into action then on what God had told him to do and the people of Nineveh were spared because the heeded to words that Jonah told them.

Now can you understand how it its important to listen to, then act when the Holy Spirit calls you into action? Next time respond to Him by asking Him for clarity in exactly what you’re to do. Then do so without being afraid or ashamed for God will be with you every step of the way.

15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. 17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. 18 And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence.

    Colossians 1:15-18

Have you ever wondered if Jesus is really God? Well, the verses above prove that He is in fact God.

He made all things for Himself, and that means everything you can think of. He made the earth and all that dwells upon it. He made the living breathing things and He made the rocks, trees and the grass as well as the dust we are made of. That’s right He made you too!

He made us to be with Him in His kingdom in heaven and one day He will bring heaven to a new earth He will make and we will be with Him forever more.

Don’t know about you friends but that sure blesses my heart and truly gives me hope in a future with Jesus.

13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, 14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

    Philippians 3:13-14

So friends just what is it that’s holding you back? Really consider this question.

You may think nothing is holding you back and I hope you are right in your thoughts. But many people are being held in check from being set free from the sin of their past lives. It needn’t be this way for them or you.

The first thing one has to do to forget the bondage of the past is to realize that when you became a believer and follower of Jesus is that He set you free in that moment that you first believed. Do you remember the feeling that you had when faith was first born in you? It can be that way again if you just let it be so.

Stop fretting over the things you can’t change and start moving forward in your life by asking the LORD to set you on a new path forward. Spend time in the scriptures learning all the Holy Spirit wants you to know and then start applying what you have learned to your life. God is not leaving you as He found you for he has made you a new creation in Jesus.

17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. - (2 Corinthians 5:17).
