Dethatching a lawn for the first time will run $350 and up. Most times, these lawns have never been dethatched, and we need to go over it 2 or so times to make sure we get a good chunk.
If you are a yearly customer, the time it take us as well as the amount of thatch will be lower, so as will the cost.
Dethatching tends to loosen up the soil at the base of the grass blades and reveal some bare soil where the thatch has been removed. This is a good time to overseed your lawn with additional grass seed, aerate the soil, and to apply appropriate soil amendments if necessary.
We offer it as a early spring service or early fall. These are the best times of the year to get your dethatching done, as it preps the ground at a great time of year for overseeding.
When spring comes around, your lawn is trying to wake up, but a layer of debris might be holding it back. That layer is called thatch, the dead grass and roots sitting between the grass blades and the soil. It needs to be pulled up so water, air, and fertilizer can actually reach the roots for a healthy season. It can be a dusty, heavy job, but Lawnade does it all for you.
In the spring, all of our mowing clients are automatically texted about our dethatching program. This includes power raking the turf, cleaning up the debris, and hauling it all away so your lawn can breathe. Every property is different and could have very different needs. Some lawns have a thick, suffocating carpet of thatch that hasn’t been touched in years. Other lawns are well-maintained and might only need a light pass. This could be a lot of work, or just a little work. Like I said, every property is different, so we’re not going to do anything you don’t need at your place.
We’ll take care of the heavy machinery and the cleanup for you, so you can enjoy the warmer weather and get back to outdoor activities without having to rent equipment or break a sweat. And as always, we let you know we’re coming ahead of time before your service so you’re never surprised to see us. If you haven’t already, you can get your free estimate right on our website.
