Meme’s Piano Bar – 9

Come on and hear Come on and hear
Alexander’s ragtime band
Come on and hear Come on and hear
It’s the best band in the land

They can play a bugle call
Like you never heard before
So natural that you want to go to war
That’s just the bestest band what am
Oh my honey lamb

Come on along Come on along
Let me take you by the hand
Up to the man Up to the man
who’s the leader of the band,

And if you care to hear the Swanee River
Played in rag-time
Come on and hear Come on and hear
Alexander’s ragtime band

“Don t play this piece fast. It is never right to play ragtime fast.” Scott Joplin

“Ragtime was my lullaby.” Hoagy Carmichael

Behind Closed Doors –

Florette Poetry

vial

Behind closed doors she heard them shout
But what they said could not make out
Their voices now were all a blur
A plot to do away with her she had no doubt

She knew just what she had to do
For days on end she’d thought it through
The vial was sitting on her chest
For all to see but none had guessed they’d get their due

The notice in the paper said
Perhaps a rumor that was spread
Way too much wine the pair consumed
An accident it was presumed for they were dead

Esther Edith Dines With A Unicorn

The Unicorn Challenge offers a prompt each week for participants to write anything using 250 words or less. Host ceayr wrote about a savory dish of haggis in a pot in a country cottage. Haggis is a traditional Scottish dish consisting of look it up yourself. A Gentleman Unicorn would certainly invite someone to dine with him in this romantic hideaway.

Esther Edith is so refined
That when she eats she dines

Politely lifts goblet to her lips
And drinks the finest wines

She never chews with open mouth
Her table manner shines
When offered an extra dish of stew
She graciously declines

Her evening wear – the latest style
With plunging V necklines
A couturier tailors her gowns
With lovely exquisite designs

Sometimes when she is all alone
For fatty food she pines
Grabs a burger and some fries
To heck with thin waistlines

Years ago I introduced Esther Edith. Maybe you have seen her name at the top of my blog. Her blog is private but because many of you sent me requests to be allowed access to her site, I decided to reveal some of the posts she made and some new ones too. You can find the new posts in my CATEGORIES: Esther Edith.

What to Do

There was not much that she could do
While in a long line at the loo
There was not much that she could do
But cross her legs and see it through

There was not much that she could do
But think of wine and a corkscrew
There was not much that she could do
But wish she hadn’t drunk that brew

There was not much that she could do
But think of how to make beef stew
There was not much that she could do
But think of bills that soon were due

There was not much that she could do
But think of number one or two
There was not much that she could do
But hope they’d leave enough tissue

Squares Settle Up

Sat down on my sofa sat down on my chair
Sat down on my floor but couldn’t settle there

Went down to my garage sat down in my car
Drove down the street settled down at the bar

Downed a dry martini how I liked the feel
Downed a few more not a drop did I spill

When I’d had enough and drunk down my fill
Got up from my stool to settle up my bill

I have never been to a bar before. Not a cheap bar. Not an upscale bar. Now I will never get the chance as the town has closed the bars. I never realized that bars were so important. Maybe that’s not the right word. But people were/are so unhappy and and downright mad because bars are closing.
I like a nice glass or two of wine or brandy. But I would rather drink in my home and be safe. Perhaps people go there to meet others. I didn’t meet my husband in a bar. I met him at a Methodist Church dance. Some Methodists are a wee bit more liberal than others. Neither of us went there because of religious reasons but to meet someone a bit more principled. We weren’t disappointed with the choice. We were married six months later and soon will be celebrating our 50th anniversary.

Sorry my picture is not quite a square. I was enjoying a small glass of wine or two as I composed this entry. If you click on the bar stool you will find I did start with good intentions.

Squares is hosted by The Life of B. A theme is suggested. It is left to the creativity (or lack of) of each participant. The only requirement is that the entry be in a square. This month’s theme is UP.

Valentine ~ Divine Wine

divinewine

The day was lovely just divine
Lots of sunshine
He poured some wine
It was benign

At the table we sat to dine
‘Twas half past nine
And drank more wine
It did taste fine

Asked me to be his Valentine
It was a sign
With some more wine
He’d soon be mine

But caught him eying my neckline
And my hemline
Demanded wine
He was a swine

His heart and mine will not combine
Love in decline
Finished the wine
Need to recline

Little Update

Yesterday I made a post
A REBLOG if I recall
Singing that in the past
My stats were really small

It wasn’t me complaining
Just writing on the wall
But now I am a wondering
If you read my posts at all

I first posted that song for fun in August of 2012 after blogging for a month. Maybe some didn’t notice it was a reblog and realize it was still posted just in fun. The song was Valentinish. I honestly don’t know how a blogger getting 200 plus likes still manages to come around and leave comments and likes.  No worries here, but the post generated a few comments of sympathy.  I am thankful for any and all comments.

Holiday Thoughts ~ Parties

holiday-drunk

With holiday parties upon us
The alcohol will start to flow
And if you don’t intend to drink
Why should you even go

A small glass of wine
Will give you such a glow
And since the host is paying for it
You won’t spend any dough

After a double martini
You’ll be the star of the show
Doing a Silly Santa routine
And shouting Ho Ho Ho

The life of the party
After a whiskey of Old Crow
Why am I so sure of this
I’ve done it and I know
