About Koi

We're a small group of researchers and chemists based in the US. After spending enough years buying research peptides from suppliers whose vials never matched the label, we started Koi in 2022.

We were tired of guessing and ruining our experiments, so we ran a test. We ordered the same peptide, BPC-157, from five different vendors and sent each one to an independent lab. Three of the five failed.

  • One came back at less than half the labeled mg.
  • Another tested below 90% purity, with degradation byproducts that weren't on the COA.
  • A third had TFA contamination at levels that would compromise any cell-culture work it touched.

All five product pages had mentioned 100% purity, and at least two were using the same uploaded COA PDF they had been using for months.

That was the moment Koi went from idea to plan. The name comes from the koi fish. There's a saying among Japanese koi keepers — "you don't keep koi, you keep water." The fish are only as good as what surrounds them. We believe a peptide is similar. The molecule on the bench is only ever as good as the lab that made it, the conditions it was lyophilized in, the cold chain it shipped through, and the testing that confirmed it before the vial went out.

Why peptides

Peptides are one of the more productive areas of pharmacological research over the last fifteen years. Over 80 peptide-based therapeutics have cleared FDA approval, and several hundred more are in clinical pipelines.

The reasons are practical: peptides offer molecular precision that small-molecule drugs often can't match, the side-effect profile in many target classes is narrower, and the synthesis process for sequences up to roughly 40 amino acids is now mature enough to manufacture reproducibly at high purity.

The preclinical work that supports all of that, cell-based assays, receptor-binding studies, in vitro pathway research, and animal-model validation, depends on research-grade peptide material that is clean, correctly identified, and consistent batch-to-batch. Without that, the data going into the next stage isn't usable.

The state of the research peptide market

  • A large share of US vendors selling research peptides are reselling bulk material synthesized overseas, repackaged under a domestic brand.
  • The COAs on those product pages are often recycled across batches, self-issued by the same operation that did the synthesis, or screenshotted from labs that can't be independently verified.
  • The data on the label is usually months old and was never confirmed by an outside party.
  • The downstream effect lands on the researcher.
  • Cell-culture work, pathway studies, and comparative experiments get built on material that doesn't match the spec, and the data those experiments produce isn't reliable either.

How we operate

Every Koi peptide is synthesized and lyophilized in the United States. The vial that reaches a buyer is the vial that was filled at our partner facility, no overseas drop-shipping or third-party warehouses in the chain.

01

Third-party tested, every batch

Independent ISO/IEC 17025-accredited lab. The panel covers HPLC purity, LC-MS identity, mass and weight verification, sterility, endotoxin (LPS), and residual TFA.

02

Dated, batch-specific COAs

The COA published on the product page is the COA for the batch in the vial. Nothing recycled across batches.

03

How don't we work?

A few things we deliberately don't do.

We don't sell peptides bundled with bacteriostatic water or syringes.

We don't publish customer testimonials describing personal effects.

We don't add a peptide to the catalog the same week it goes viral.

New compounds run through the same QC process as the rest of the catalog, which takes the time it takes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Koi provide a certificate of analysis? +

Yes. Every batch ships with a third-party COA (HPLC + Mass Spectrometry), and the same document is published on each product page with the batch number and test date.

How do I verify a COA? +

Each Koi peptides COA carries a unique identifier issued by the testing lab. You can cross-reference the document directly with the lab's verification system to confirm it's authentic. If anything on a COA looks inconsistent, email us, and we'll put you in touch with the lab contact.

Are these peptides for human use? +

No. Koi peptides are supplied strictly for in vitro laboratory research by qualified research professionals. They have not been evaluated by the FDA and are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.

How does Koi test peptides? +

Every batch goes to an independent ISO/IEC 17025-accredited laboratory for HPLC purity, LC-MS identity confirmation, mass and weight verification, sterility, endotoxin (LPS) level, and TFA content. A batch is not released for sale until the full panel is on file.

How should I store and handle these peptides? +

Lyophilized vials should be stored at -20 °C, sealed and protected from light and moisture. After reconstitution with a sterile diluent, store at 2-8 °C and use promptly. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles, and follow standard aseptic technique throughout handling.
