I’m really an 80s baby. I also like every genre of music. At first, when I did a quick turn on my theme, I was going to stay with 70s classic rock before Mister DD – Damiano David blew me away. Y’all have no freaking idea what that song now means to me. I literally weep. Not sad but amazed. The title alone was so on point — bullseye. But that was D, and this is F.
Ya know it’s about how music makes you feel. That’s how I’m picking my songs. The lyrics, sometimes subtle, sometimes in your face, are all about one thing — personal expressions.
I didn’t go to Incarnate Word (IWHS), the all-girls Catholic high school on the northside, with my best friend, Cindi. I could have, but St. Gerard (SGH) on the east side was less expensive and closer to home. Also, if SGH was good enough for my siblings before me, it was good enough for me. There were already enough differences between us, I didn’t want the gap to widen.
SGH Royals had keg parties with loud music, but school dances, the curated kind in the gym, were not our thing. So, of course, I attended IWHS Shamrocks dances as a guest of my bestie, where you guessed it, Flock of Seagulls was regularly played. The year was 1982, and boy, if those walls (or the parking lot) could talk. Ha! 🤣
On a more serious note, pictures mean the world to me. In some cases, they’re all I will ever have of my roots. My unrealized life. Bittersweet.
As always, more to come.
