False Prophets
My thoughts become untethered as the creatures in cloaks surround me; their arms, like tendrils, wrap around me until I’m screaming for the gods to save me. One by one, these ghoulish things out of nightmares dab ash on my forehead, uttering in hushed tones how it would renew my soul. I wasn’t worried about my soul, only my life. Escape is the only thought that weaves through my brain as these alleged holy men continue their ritual. A spark alit next to me, heading below to the bottom of my dress. I wonder if they understood they were evil.
SenHai Saturday #37
Here is this week’s image to get your creative juices flowing!
Please create one senryu and one haiku to accompany this image prompt. Remember that traditional American haikus and senryus are three lines presented in a 5-7-5 syllabic pattern. The haiku describes nature or a season, and the senryu focuses on human nature and emotions.
As the photographer describes, “This is a photo of texture, stone, natural beauty, and abstract nature.” The scene is of only rocks, in all different shapes, but they almost look as if they are interlocked, fitting together naturally. Some are water-filled, and the colors range from tan, grey, blue, and black. There are some rocks that look like they have small light pebbles on them or perhaps remnants of gold flecks.
Then, provide a link in the comments below or ping back to this post on your blog.
Here is a wrap-up of last week’s prompt. I appreciate each of you for sharing your thoughts!

Glenis Moore
Edges
Walking the field edge
birds rise up at my approach
dust motes on the wind
Snow flakes
There’s snow in the air
fluttering faintly downwards
the white flakes glinting
like falling stars lost in space
until they land and just fade.
Threat
Squawking, fluttering furiously
the goldfinch battles his opponent,
stabbing wildly and savagely in vain
at his own reflection
in the window pane.
Waiting
Sunlight
through spotted glass
throws misshapen shadows
into the forsaken room while
time waits.
Differences
I notice her hands are bent, the fingers
sloping away from the index. However,
it does not prevent her from writing long letters.
I think of our time on Milford Sound,
the clouds watering the land, tears of joy in our eyes
and I ask her if she has mentioned that trip.
She looks up: “I just remember the rain”,
she says and simply carries on writing.
