My second piece has been posted by Pure Haiku! Please do visit Freya’s website and check out all the talent presented during this cycle! They are amazing!
Again, many thanks to Freya for challenging us to hone our craft, and to Elisa Ang once again for such incredible artwork!
Here is this week’s image to get your creative juices flowing!
Please create one senryu and one haiku to accompany this image prompt. Remember that traditional American haikus and senryus are three lines presented in a 5-7-5 syllabic pattern. The haiku describes nature or a season, and the senryu focuses on human nature and emotions.
This image is an underwater scene. There are large rocks in a variety of colors at the bottom of what appears to be an ocean, and thin streams of sunlight from the sun above shine down into the water.

Spring skips jauntily
a bunch of yellow blossoms
await butterflies
Majestic mountain
rising above wispy clouds
sky unreachable
Sadje – I ascended and looked!
Lisa – Small as a Poppy
Violet – Castles
Destiny – #a gentle moment…#
silent borders
sleeping
on your side
of the bed
feels
transgressive
inhabiting
a bigger shape
a different space
a provocation
poem for a relative
we meet in dreams
younger versions of ourselves
carefree
the before times
when we could laugh
this family
still precious
no lines drawn
afterwards
still sitting alone in the car
i hear wind rocking
autumn-stripped branches
watch a magpie
socially distanced
on the wire fence beside
a plump wood pigeon
i listen
a lullaby of trees & sky
clouding over
& thoughts swirl
whisper
into poems
dawn-green
i sing you
our lost goodbyes
melting into ash
there is green
& there is green
i listen
still
recovery
sunny
breezy
ages since I
it felt nice
to go
further
although
it did get a bit
warm
& the wind against me
(where did that come from?)
average heart rate better
still a way to go
counting sea monsters
my father’s eyes
simply rumours
undone
seeing faces in clouds
those who went before
threnody
unmeasured
we depart
without ever
rippling
the pond
flow(er)ing
a creature of
leaf & echo
she talks
her mouth
rainfall
a tangle of treebones
she walks
her eyes twin flames
searing hearts &
spitting rainbows
the she word
sheathing swords
planting seeds
we are more than
vessel
more than
form & function
this wom(b)an
this lay/dee
in rosehip dreams
those voices
silent
silenced
letting these
small moments
grow
rapture
this time
we are advocate
we are anthem
sonic flotations
dainty renegades
bruise blue
rewilding
freefalling
as thimbles of
resurrected light
cradle our final
words

each form of flair is unique to the deliverer
their genius guided by instinct and drive
some hone in on one thing, others are multi-faceted
writing is my tool
it brings thoughts to life
the form where i express myself best
my creativity started late in life
no courage or time to express differently now
my dedication is to this passion only
each craft in our world conveys emotion
the artist is the catalyst for revelation
they enable you to feel their articulation
my attempts would fumble
meanings not delivered or landing
the outcome resembling an outtake
i leave it to those moved by expression
to enlighten me alongside them
to see and feel what they do
the choice for me is clear
i hope my message resonates for eternity
may every expressive being send their message in their way
present pleasing smile
subtly make opinion known
an assured woman
Redux
being in the warmth of the day
wrapped up in nature’s acceptance
there is my ease
stepping into this slice of time
inhaling in the calm
there is my peace
this feeling of being connected
grounded in my thoughts
there is my sanity

The photographer describes the image as yellow flowers bloom at the mountain’s foot. But what I really enjoyed was what he wrote after that…
Woke up at dawn, hiked 3 hours through the darkness, and climbed over 1000 meters of elevation — but when you stand in front of this view at sunrise, with everything falling perfectly into place, every step was worth it. Moments like these make you forget the struggle and just feel awe.
